About this Role The Managing Director, Nature Finance is a pivotal role responsible for leading NatureVest’s team in developing and executing impact investment and sovereign debt products that aim to meet The Nature Conservancy’s 2030 Goals. This position requires a seasoned finance expert to oversee and input on the development of investment capital and structure transactions to deliver conservation outcomes. Working collaboratively with TNC’s Global Strategy and Regional Leadership teams, the Managing Director will also cultivate new partnerships, manage external relationships with key stakeholders, and directly manage NatureVest’s Impact Investments and Sustainable Debt teams. The role is based preferably in Washington, D.C. or New York City, but other locations will be considered, reflecting its broad geographical engagement.
Responsibilities
Leads and directs a team of finance professionals in structuring deals and performing financial analyses for impact investment products.
Applies deep financial expertise to pioneer innovative approaches in impact investing and sovereign debt markets.
Builds and strengthens strategic relationships with financial institutions, credit enhancers, NGOs, and government entities.
Integrates cross-disciplinary insights to design viable investments that deliver measurable conservation outcomes.
Influences decision-making across all levels at TNC and fosters collaboration with internal leaders and external partners.
Guides legal collaboration on complex transaction issues and represents TNC publicly at industry events.
Serves on TNC’s internal review and approvals committee for impact investment transactions.
Travels extensively (up to 30% domestic and international) for strategic engagements.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
9 years of related work experience in sectors like investment banking or multilateral finance.
Experience in structuring, negotiating, and closing debt and equity transactions, including in emerging markets.
Knowledge of debt swap structures and impact investing.
A proven track record of meeting programmatic and policy commitments.
Ability to direct complex projects and ensure program accountability.
Experience negotiating complex legal agreements from a business and financial perspective.
Strong written and verbal English proficiency.
