POSITION The High School Dean of Students is responsible for building and guiding student culture and the management and delivery of student support services in the high school. This position reports directly to the High School Principal and works in close collaboration with the student advisors, college and personal counselors, learning specialists, academic program coordinators, faculty, and support staff. The High School Dean of Students serves as a member of the high school administrative team and is involved in many aspects of program delivery and management. Assignments will vary considerably including, but not limited to: running class assemblies, building student activity calendars, managing student discipline and attendance, coordinating the student support team, guiding student leadership and activities, supporting instructional programs, and developing and implementing policy.

FOCUS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Builds school spirit and community connection throughout student life

Oversees student social-emotional development and wellness

Fosters a school culture that values care and respect for others, our spaces, and our community

Maintains a culture of student accountability on school policies, especially around discipline, attendance, and student behaviors

Oversees and coordinates student life programs, including:

Student advisory and wellness program to facilitate student social-emotional development and create spaces for individualized guidance and support

Student Council and student events and activities to build student leadership and create community

Experiences, activities, and field trips, including start-of-year retreats, that connect students to our vibrant urban environment and create opportunities for class bonding

Performs other duties as assigned by the High School Principal

Salary range for this position $125,000 - $140,000 depending on experience and qualifications.

QUALIFICATIONS

Licenses and Certificates:

Teaching and/or Administration certification

MA in Education or Education Leadership Desirable

Education and Experience: Candidate should have previous 9-12 grade teaching experience, some previous administrative experience, appropriate leadership experience in a school setting

Skills and Abilities:

A good working knowledge of secondary education and adolescent development

Strong problem-solving skills that take into account a wide range of needs in a multicultural environment

Excellent human relations and communication skills to convey information to parents, students, staff, and other institutions in a friendly, consistent, and clear manner

Works effectively both independently and as part of a team

Organizes work to meet schedules and timelines, despite the frequent interruptions and distractions in a fast-paced setting

Comfortable with standard software applications, education databases and web-based reporting solutions, and able to learn new applications and search out appropriate technology tools as needed

Able to deal with sensitive communications and maintain confidentiality

A good sense of humor

Knowledge and command of French or another language other than English is a plus, though it is not required
