Department of Orthopaedic Surgery – UCSF School of Medicine and Benioff Children’s Hospitals

Position summary:

The UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is recruiting multiple Foot/Ankle Surgeons for an academic position at the Assistant/Associate/Full Professor rank in the Health Sciences Clinical series. Candidates will provide diagnostic and interventional management for a full spectrum of foot and ankle musculoskeletal diagnoses, collaborate on research to produce peer‑reviewed publications, and participate in didactic and bedside teaching and mentoring of medical students, residents, and fellows. Positions will be based at UCSF sites such as Mission Bay, Marin, and San Mateo with full access to all UCSF locations.

Responsibilities

Provide diagnostic and interventional management of foot and ankle musculoskeletal conditions.

Lead and contribute to investigative work that results in peer‑reviewed publications.

Participate in didactic and bedside teaching, mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows.

Collaborate with colleagues across UCSF clinical and academic units.

Qualifications

A valid California medical license or an equivalent Special Permit issued or pending.

MD, DO, or equivalent degree from an accredited program.

Completion of an accredited Orthopaedic Residency program.

Completion of a Foot/Ankle Fellowship.

Board certification or eligibility in Orthopaedic Surgery.

Compensation The posted UC salary scales set a minimum base pay of $154,700, determined by academic rank and step at appointment. Total negotiated compensation, including base and negotiated components, can be significantly higher and may reach up to $900,000, depending on qualifications, clinical productivity, and other factors assessed at the time of offer.
