Salary Range
$105,000.00 - $174,000.00
Overview Yale School of Medicine (YSM) seeks an innovative, dynamic, and knowledgeable Director of Admissions to lead us in our mission. This leader is eager to re-envision how we develop connections with promising students and shares our enthusiasm for the Yale System of medical education, and to engage with prospective students.
The mission of the YSM Office of Admissions is to admit a diverse class of outstanding students who show great promise for becoming leaders in medicine and science.
Reporting to the Associate Dean of Admissions, the Director is the leader of the YSM admissions team. The Director is responsible for planning, leading, and overall management of YSM’s admission, outreach, and recruitment activities. The Director develops and implements innovative strategies to build a diverse applicant pool, participates in the evaluation of candidates for admission, and provides leadership to the committees during the admissions season. The Director’s knowledge of the changing face of medical school admissions will also play a critical role in policy decisions at the highest level of the institution. The Director also leads the evaluation of the outcomes of the admissions process and develops strategies for continuous improvement, working with YSM leadership and the admissions committees. The director engages with current students and faculty on admissions committees; interprets and presents enrollment trends and the medical school admissions landscape to key audiences; leads communications and marketing strategies and initiatives.
To ensure YSM’s Admissions outreach and interactions support the successful implementation of our mission, the Director manages technical platforms, leads the student ambassador program and mentors the office staff. The Director is expected to be a visionary and knowledgeable leader who is comfortable developing both strategy and tactical solutions that will shape the role of the admissions team.
The position requires a high degree of autonomy but also collaboration with YSM senior leadership, academic and administrative stakeholders to drive a state of the art approach to admissions. The position also calls for an empathetic communicator with strong public speaking ability and listening skills who can create an autonomous but collaborative environment that will facilitate innovative ways to improve the admissions process and recruit promising students who share our enthusiasm for the Yale System of medical education.
The YSM Admissions Office is committed primarily to meeting operational needs but is willing to support a flexible work environment as the demands of the admissions schedule change throughout the year. This position allows for a combination of in-person and hybrid work arrangements, with a preference for majority in-person time to best support prospective and current students as well as YSM faculty.

Principal Responsibilities
Directs one or more functional areas within an administrative department of the University and ensure compliance with University policies and procedures.
Directs analytic and research support for educational policies and planning and develops and approves administrative policies affecting assigned functional areas of the University.
Directs and establishes parameters for major projects for the department and University.
Interprets federal policies and regulations and educates staff and administration about regulations, restrictions, and the legal responsibilities of the University.
Directs and implements policy and program modifications and develops standards to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
Develops and administers an operating budget for the assigned department consistent with University policies and procedures.
Develops cost savings objectives and goals; authorizes major purchases and negotiates contracts that range from routine to complex in nature.
Establishes and implements long- and short-range goals for the functional area consistent with University goals and objectives.
Directs the development of related automated systems to support the function; determines office policies and procedures for use of automated systems.
Directs the evaluation and selection of vendors and negotiates contract details including work steps and pricing with the vendors on behalf of the assigned functional area.
Works with internal and external contacts to solve problems that range from routine to complex in nature.
Represents the University in discussions and negotiations with various governmental agencies.
Directs a staff of exempt and nonexempt employees.
May perform other duties as assigned.
