Responsibilities
Plan and carry out the collection and analysis of information, data and standards used by the assigned organization to perform mathematics tasks.
Carry out special projects designed to facilitate the full use of interns’ training and development.
Keep abreast of emerging technologies and professional developments to maintain current in the field and for application to work assignments.
Perform scientific work in the field of mathematics in support of conventional projects, or portions of larger projects and programs under the guidance of a senior mathematician or scientist.

Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the OPM Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions and the Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Professional and Scientific Positions.
BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT
Degree : mathematics, or the equivalent of a major that included at least 24 semester hours in mathematics.
Combination of education and experience
– courses equivalent to a major in mathematics plus appropriate experience or additional education.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE
– one year of specialized experience for each GS level (GS‑11 to GS‑15). Specific responsibilities vary by grade (e.g., GS‑11: data analysis; GS‑12: coordination; GS‑13: technical assistance; GS‑14: research programs; GS‑15: operational leadership).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
Knowledge of mathematics policies, theories, principles and concepts and familiarity with other scientific and engineering disciplines.
Knowledge of mathematics and related disciplines to design, develop and adapt scientific methods and techniques.
Knowledge of analytical techniques to develop, stimulate, and analyze data.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Knowledge of computer operations and standard software applications.
Education If you are using education to qualify, submit official transcripts for verification when required. Ensure the institution is accredited by a U.S. Department of Education recognized accrediting agency.
