Job Description Summary:
GW’s Columbian College of Arts and Sciences (CCAS) is the largest undergraduate school on campus and home to the liberal arts. The CCAS Undergraduate Academic Advising Office empowers students to make intentional, informed decisions in pursuit of their academic, professional, and personal goals. The Senior Academic Advisor introduces strategies to foster personal and academic success in a welcoming, supportive environment that values each student’s experiences, identities, and strengths. The Senior Academic Advisor serves within an advising POD, provides general CCAS advising, and acts as a liaison between the advising office and special student populations (e.g., transfer students, first‑generation students, etc.). In addition, the Senior Academic Advisor oversees CCAS’s Academic Success Program, assisting students in overcoming academic obstacles and connecting them with supplemental academic support resources. The role supports students on academic probation, returning students, and those needing additional guidance, while collaborating with campus partners to proactively support all CCAS students.
Duties and Responsibilities
Track and manage student records through paper and electronic means, participate in staff meetings, and engage in professional development opportunities to strengthen the team.
Develop, maintain, and enhance internal projects that further student success and advisor accessibility.
Participate in all‑hands‑on‑deck events such as new student orientation, graduation, and other campus events.
Perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning logically related responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
