Job Summary IDEAYA Biosciences is a precision‑medicine oncology company focused on discovering, developing, and commercializing transformative therapies for cancer. Our work examines small‑molecule drug discovery, structural biology, bioinformatics, and translational biomarkers to create tailored, first‑in‑class targeted therapies. The Chief Development Officer (CDO) will lead the operational execution of all development programs, overseeing early‑phase clinical development, biomarker science, clinical operations (early and late phase), medical writing, and project management.

Position Summary The CDO reports to the Chief Medical Officer and has a dotted‑line reporting relationship to the CEO. The role is responsible for managing timelines, budgets, resources, and deliverables to ensure operational excellence across the Development team. It is an Executive‑level, full‑time position based in South San Francisco, requiring a presence four days a week.

Responsibilities

Serve as the head of early‑phase clinical development with full accountability for clinical strategy, operational excellence, and execution of all early‑phase programs.

Collaborate closely with the Chief Medical Officer, late‑phase development, research, manufacturing (CMC), and commercial teams.

Build, mentor, and lead development teams, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and high performance.

Demonstrate strategic leadership, role‑model company values, and contribute to day‑to‑day operations.

Leverage analytical and data‑driven approaches to deliver fact‑based analysis and insights.

Apply an agile and lean mindset to solve challenges creatively and efficiently.

Maintain strong interpersonal skills, humility, professionalism, and inspirational leadership to galvanize high performance.

Adapt to changing work environments, industry shifts, and competing demands.

Requirements

Medical degree with oncology training.

Minimum of 20 years of clinical drug‑development experience in biopharma.

Minimum of 15 years of senior leadership experience.

Comprehensive understanding of oncology clinical trial design across all phases.

Experience with clinical trial data monitoring and all facets of drug development.

Knowledge of GCP and ICH guidelines.

The expected salary range for Chief Development Officer is $434,000 – $536,000.
