Job Summary The Director, Mobile Engineering leads multiple Marriott iOS and Android engineering teams to deliver high‑quality mobile experiences that drive guest engagement and business performance across the Marriott Bonvoy apps. The role oversees engineering execution for multiple mobile commerce squads (search, shop, book) ensuring predictable delivery, application stability, and business value.

Job Description This leader blends

strong people leadership, hands‑on technical depth, and delivery excellence , guiding teams through implementation challenges, assisting with technical issue resolution, and ensuring adherence to modern engineering practices. Hospitality experience is important to align mobile experiences with guest expectations for loyalty, ease of booking, and personalization.

The Director partners closely with Product, Architecture, Business Stakeholders, and engineering leads across channels to translate enterprise priorities into actionable plans. The ideal candidate is a seasoned mobile engineering leader with prior hands‑on development experience (iOS and/or Android), a record of building strong engineering organizations, and demonstrated success delivering business outcomes at global scale.

Candidate Profile Required

8+ years of progressive software engineering leadership experience with direct oversight of native mobile development (iOS and/or Android)

Hands‑on mobile development background; able to guide teams, make informed technical decisions, and assist with technical issue resolution

Experience delivering large‑scale consumer mobile apps supporting millions of users

Experience in the hospitality, travel, or related guest‑service industry, delivering mobile features supporting customer loyalty, search, shop, and booking journeys

3+ years leading engineering managers and/or tech leads; proven ability to hire, develop, and coach high‑performing hybrid/remote/offshore teams

Experience working in Agile product delivery environments; familiarity with SAFe or similar scaled frameworks

Demonstrated success partnering with Product to shape priorities, scope delivery, define outcomes, and ensure alignment with business goals

Working knowledge of backend service integration, API contracts, networking patterns, and related platform dependencies

Operational experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, code quality, observability, performance monitoring, and app‑store release management

Direct management of multi‑million‑dollar budgets (>$5M)

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience

Preferred

Experience with mobile commerce (search, shop, booking)

Experience with experimentation frameworks, analytics, and optimization

Experience managing vendor/managed‑services partners

Familiarity with SDLC, ITIL, and continuous‑improvement frameworks

Core Work Activities Managing Mobile Engineering Delivery

Leads multiple mobile engineering squads across iOS and Android to deliver features supporting commercial outcomes, including guest‑focused search, shop, and booking experiences

Ensures predictable execution using Agile and/or SAFe‑aligned practices, including strong estimation, planning, and dependency management

Oversees implementation of technical solutions in partnership with Architecture and Tech Leads; contributes guidance as needed to validate feasibility and unblock delivery

Maintains high quality bars for design, secure coding practices, performance, accessibility, and compliance

Supports cross‑functional collaboration across product, experience, design, and data teams

Product & Stakeholder Collaboration

Partners with Product Directors to define priorities, sequencing, and release strategies aligned with business value and guest‑journey objectives

Ensures engineering teams understand requirements, scope, acceptance criteria, and upstream/downstream dependencies

Communicates program status, delivery risks, and prioritization decisions to senior leadership and business stakeholders

Provides engineering insight to product planning, investment prioritization, and quarterly/PI delivery commitments

Managing Engineering Teams & Talent

Leads engineering managers and tech leads; promotes strong delivery behaviors, engineering rigor, and cross‑platform collaboration

Recruits, develops, and retains top mobile engineering talent by fostering a culture of inclusion, empowerment, ownership, and continuous learning

Partners on workforce planning, staffing strategy, onboarding, and succession planning

Provides regular coaching, feedback, performance evaluations, and development plans for leaders and engineers

Technical Leadership & Issue Resolution

Leverages prior hands‑on experience (iOS and/or Android) to support engineering teams in evaluating solutions, troubleshooting complex issues, and accelerating delivery when needed

Provides guidance on implementation approaches, integration patterns, and system interactions; promotes reuse and simplification without owning platform architecture

Serves as an escalation point for deep technical challenges; removes barriers via hands‑on assistance, pairing, or targeted SME engagement

Engineering Excellence & Continuous Improvement

Ensures adherence to standard SDLC processes, development tools, secure coding practices, and compliance requirements

Drives maturity in engineering KPIs including throughput, crash rates, performance benchmarks, defect density, PR cycle time, and production SLAs

Promotes continuous improvement in tooling, observability, operational readiness, workflows, and development practices to improve developer velocity and product quality

Encourages innovation, prototyping, and evaluation of emerging tools or frameworks supporting developer efficiency and guest experience

Operational Leadership

Oversees release management, deployment, and production readiness for mobile applications

Ensures effective incident response and problem‑management practices in partnership with operations and vendor teams

Monitors application performance, reliability, and customer experience‑in‑cluding session health, booking completion, and loyalty engagement metrics

Uses data‑driven insights to guide improvements in performance and stability

Financial & Vendor Management

Manages multi‑million‑dollar operating budgets; ensures investment alignment with strategic priorities and financial plans

Oversees third‑party engineering delivery; ensures performance meets expectations, SLAs, and quality standards

Supports business case development for platform enhancements, capacity planning, and vendor strategy

Ensures efficient use of resources; drives cost discipline and value realization
