Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Plan, organize and manage all health information management operations including release of information, data integrity, filing and scanning, storage and retention, dictation and transcription, electronic health record management applications and regulatory requirements. Assess departmental performance in relation to industry best practices and established goals and standards; recommends new policies and procedures to effect continued improvement in the efficiency of services provided by the HIM Department. Develop standards of performance for management and staff. Develop goals and objectives consistent with the organization’s strategic mission. Initiate innovative/creative methods for HIM improvement through collaborative working relationships with various department heads, clinical leaders, and colleagues. Provide leadership, organizational structure, and management expertise for realistic, sustainable planning as well as efficient day-to-day operation of HIM which aligns with the vision of OneBILH. Develop and oversee financial management including budget, salary, capital and revenue projections. Work as a team with managers internal and external to HIM to accomplish operational requirements of Health Information Management and/or other hospital departments. Execute personnel functions such as hiring, performance evaluation, counseling, corrective actions and termination, etc. Analyze current technology and work with the appropriate members of Beth Israel Lahey Health and appropriate vendors to continuously improve workflow processes. Develop processes to manage and monitor the accuracy, timeliness, content and availability of documentation (electronic and paper) to support legal, regulatory, and operational activities. Work collaboratively with the Revenue Cycle team to ensure completion of documentation that supports maximum and timely reimbursement. Oversee the management, retention, access, and destruction of paper based medical records within the organization. Participate in the development, implementation, and updates of applications that support the electronic medical record (EMR) and document management systems. Participate in quality performance activities that support a state of readiness for regulatory surveys and audits. Serve as a member of designated leadership councils, policy, and quality committees. Education
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and/or experience. Master’s degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred. Licensure, Certification & Registration
RHIT or RHIA Experience
Minimum of 10 years of Management experience in Health Information Management. Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills. Prior experience utilizing EHR software. Expert knowledge of legal and regulatory standards related to HIM function. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills. Ability to manage a large workforce within a large healthcare environment. Ability to work with all levels of support staff, management, and physicians. Epic EHR experience. Pay Range
$175,000.00 USD - $200,000.00 USD. The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
