Job Overview SCS is seeking a Director, Climate Solutions with strong experience in GHG accounting and carbon footprint methodologies, climate and nature-related disclosure and reporting protocols, decarbonization initiatives, and broader sustainability strategy. The ideal candidate brings a strong technical aptitude and project management skillset coupled with the ability to support business development and proposal processes with effective client communication and presentation approaches. The Director must have a history of effective industry engagement and collaborative project design and execution. This position is virtual with the opportunity for a dynamic hybrid work environment in the Bay Area or other select locations throughout the United States.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Technical Leadership and Delivery

Lead complex Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG inventories across a range of organizations and sectors

Develop and apply GHG accounting and decarbonization strategies across different value chains, including complex supply chains and land-use intensive sectors such as food and agriculture

Guide team and client understanding of relevant methodologies and protocols, including the IFRS S2, GHG Protocol (Land Sector and Removals Standard), and SBTi guidance (FLAG)

Effectively use relevant climate and sustainability reporting software tools, including carbon accounting platforms, climate risk and scenario analysis tools, ESG reporting systems, and advanced business analytics software

Support the expansion of the innovative Total Climate Footprint™ and Super Pollutant Advisory offering in collaboration with SCS' Global Heat Reduction Initiative

Map client needs and datasets to overall decarbonization strategies with time-bound targets and goals

Review and assure the technical quality of GHG inventories and carbon footprints, supporting integration of these datasets into larger sustainability and ESG reporting efforts

Translate technical outputs into clear, decision-ready insights for clients

Leverage exceptional project management skills to plan, execute, and create industry-leading deliverables within project scopes and budgets

Collaborate closely with Climate Solutions’ Senior Technical Manager to lead and mentor project teams with a hands‑on, supportive leadership style

Provide technical oversight, coaching, and escalation support on complex or novel issues

Set performance goals using clear targets to use as a basis for performance evaluation; carry out one‑on‑one check‑ins with direct reports on a regular cadence

Industry Engagement and Thought Leadership

Act as an industry engagement specialist, representing the organization in sector forums, working groups, and external events

Contribute to thought leadership grounded in practical delivery experience and evolving best practice

Proactively identify emerging trends and help shape the future state of climate leadership

Client and Proposal Support

Support scoping, proposal development, and client discussions for technically complex sustainability and GHG accounting work

Contribute to the development of new or expanded services based on delivery insight and sector needs

Participate in strategic business development and sales initiatives working closely with the Consulting Services leadership team

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in relevant disciplines, such as Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, or related field or

10+ years of professional work experience in the sustainability industry and

6+ years of experience in GHG accounting and sustainability, gained in consulting and/or in‑house roles and

4+ years of experience working in a consultancy environment, including tracking time and delivering billable work that generates revenue in one or more service areas

Solid working knowledge of relevant standards and frameworks, including GHG Protocol, ISO 14064, IFRS S2, SBTi (including FLAG, where applicable), and TNFD

Experience reviewing GHG inventories for technical rigor and alignment with best practice

Comfortable engaging with clients and contributing to proposals based on technical expertise

Complete fluency in English and work experience that involves professional written communication

Proficient with business software including Outlook, Word, Excel, and database management

Initiative, good judgment, and ability to work independently under pressure in a changing environment

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree or PhD in a relevant discipline

Experience with Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and/or Product Carbon Footprints (PCFs)

Familiarity with carbon accounting and sustainability data platforms

Experience working with auditors or assurance providers

Exposure to broader sustainability or ESG reporting (e.g., CDP, GRI, SASB)

Business proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese
