Chief Finance & Administration Officer Habitat for Humanity of Minnesota seeks a Chief Finance & Administration Officer.

An operational leader responsible for overseeing, managing and leading the Financial, Operational, and Lending departments of the organization, focused on sustainability, efficiency and effectiveness, and centered on advancing Habitat’s mission in our region. The CFAO, in partnership with the Lending Team, maintains and advances Habitat Minnesota’s position as a Community Development Finance Institution (CDFI). The CFAO will lead organizational compliance and financial management responsibilities with a wide-reaching impact across critical organizational functions, including executive, finance, lending programs, IT, and vendor relations.

Our core business hours are Monday-Friday between 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Habitat Minnesota is a hybrid work environment, with staff required to be in the office on Mondays (located in St Paul) with the remaining days flexible and some asynchronous work occurring throughout the organization to accommodate various needs.

Habitat Minnesota’s compensation package includes health and dental benefits, 401K match program, generous vacation and sick leave, and paid leave programs for sabbatical and family & medical leaves (supplementing the State program), and other employee benefit options. The salary for this position is $135,000 annually.

Responsibilities Operational Leadership:

Lead, support, and coach staff to ensure that the lending and accounting customer service experience is positive, and the lending and grants programs’ objectives are successfully achieved.

Build a strong and engaged staff team that integrates its work with all aspects of HFHMN operations.

Lead the development, oversight and analysis of organizational systems, policies, and procedures for lending and grant programs, financial oversight, and other organizational policies, in coordination with applicable departments.

Supervise accounting and finance staff, ensuring accounting principles are being appropriately applied and monthly financials are accurate and provided to CEO in a timely manner.

Collaborate with Executive Leadership and consultants to develop and implement strategic plans and lead annual work planning.

Align Habitat Minnesota financial policies with the annual planning and budgeting process, identifying necessary resources, tools, materials, and grant/project requirements.

Drive organizational change initiatives to enhance operational performance and effectiveness.

Gather, analyze, and visualize data related to operations to provide regular reports on operational performance, providing insights for making informed decisions and improving future planning.

Conduct annual financial forecasting, trend analysis, loan product pricing and service-level fee-setting and be a thought-partner with the CEO for the financial stability of the organization.

Lead CDFI compliance and certification procedures, working with the Lending Programs Director, including all connected monitoring, reporting, annual recertification, and performance metric reporting.

Compliance and Risk Management:

Direct collaborative efforts with Habitat Minnesota leadership, staff, and committees to review, amend, and update operational and financial policies and practices, ensuring alignment and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

Drive operational integrity by motivating and supporting staff in adhering to organizational policies, practices, and tools.

Procure, monitor, and manage business resources and organizational insurance.

Serves as the organization’s Anti‑Money Laundering Compliance Officer and conduct annual organizational training; stay up to date on all related laws and regulations.

Ensure organizational and financial compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements.

Financial Management:

Work across existing teams to lead the annual budget setting process, assisting with department budget development, financial policies, and accounting practices.

Partner with CEO and key staff, including the Advancement Director and Lending Programs Director, to create annual fundraising and earned revenue expectations for annual budget and planning purposes to achieve strategic goals.

Supervise and support the Finance Manager in the execution of in‑house accounting functions, e.g., weekly deposits, accounts payable, accounts receivable, etc., including and reviewing monthly financial statements for accuracy.

Work with the auditing firm to lead Habitat Minnesota’s annual audit and 990 filing processes.

Develop and manage the Admin Department budgets.

Ensure compliance with financial regulations.

Portfolio & Asset Management:

Lead the portfolio and asset management of Habitat Minnesota’s loan fund including monitoring, managing, and servicing the portfolio of loans.

Create and maintain systems, policies and procedures for monitoring loan asset quality and portfolio management.

Maintain compliance with funder requirements for capital investments, covenants, and reporting.

Maintain compliance with all applicable laws and regulations governing lending activities.

Lead and manage Habitat for Humanity of Minnesota’s corporate trustee relationship and all other banking relationships, including adjusting and ensuring accounts are appropriately managed.

Work with ComputerShare Trust team to maintain current processes, responsibilities, and commitments, including file transfers between HFHMN and ComputerShare and monthly and quarterly fund transfers. Work in partnership with the Lending Programs Director to ensure account balances are accurate.

Support Lending Programs director in their leadership of managing the loan pipeline demand for capital optimization; Support Lending Programs Director in the development and maintenance of a lending programs dashboard that includes demand and portfolio metrics.

Operations and IT Management:

Oversee day‑to‑day operations, ensuring efficient workflows, resource allocation, and effective use of organizational budgets, resources, technology, and materials.

Manage contract partnerships, including acting as the primary liaison to auditors, IT consultants, and other outside vendors that support Habitat Minnesota’s operations.

Manage organizational communication systems and oversee IT operations.

Work with IT consultants to implement the appropriate technology systems and controls throughout the organization.

Work with the Finance Manager and across teams to track organizational agreements, contracts, and non‑disclosure agreements.

Qualifications

A commitment to Habitat Minnesota’s mission and values.

Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, required. Possess thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, practices, procedures, and controls.

7+ years of leadership experience with loan fund development, affordable housing lending, and/or finance.

Experience working with Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) required.

Experience handling organizational and finance compliance, including government and philanthropic contract and grant reporting and monitoring efforts, and leading an annual audit and tax filing process.

Strong project management, time management, and planning skills, with a demonstrated ability to take initiative and drive projects forward independently.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Demonstrated success in organizing work, attention to detail, meeting deadlines, and setting priorities.

Proficiency in using a computer to perform work‑related tasks. Proficiency with QuickBooks, Microsoft Suite and Teams a primary means of communication. Preferred Downhome and Salesforce experience.
