Description

MaineHealth Behavioral Health (MHBH) seeks a full‑time (1.0 FTE) psychiatrist in Portland, Maine. The hybrid role spans two levels of care: intensive, team‑based psychiatric care at the Spring Harbor Outpatient Clinic and traditional outpatient treatment within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

Days per week:

2.5 days at Spring Harbor Hospital Outpatient Clinic

2.5 days in the Ambulatory Outpatient Program

About the Spring Harbor Outpatient Clinic

The Clinic bridges the gap between intensive services (hospitalization or partial hospitalization) and outpatient care, offering an alternative for patients who require more intensive treatment than traditional visits. Program features:

Structured team‑based approach

Individualized treatment planning with specific tracks and lengths of stay

Multidisciplinary team including psychiatrists, social workers, and nurses

Focus on reducing psychiatric symptoms and preventing inpatient hospitalization

The selected psychiatrist will

lead the interdisciplinary team , conduct evaluations, manage medication, and guide treatment planning collaboratively with primary care clinicians and psychiatric nursing staff.

About the MaineHealth Behavioral Health Outpatient Program

The Ambulatory Outpatient Program is evolving into a CCBHC model, ensuring timely access to comprehensive, coordinated behavioral health services. Services include:

Psychiatric evaluation and medication management

Individual & family therapy, peer support services, and care coordination

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy program

Trauma‑informed, recovery‑oriented approaches

Support for co‑occurring mental health and substance use conditions

Telehealth and hybrid care options

Minimum Qualifications

MD or DO with board certification or eligibility in Psychiatry

Current or eligible licensure as a physician by the Maine Board of Licensure in Medicine

Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or eligible for examination with written evidence

Board Certified or board eligible in general psychiatry

Current DEA Registration Certificate3+ years of experience, inclusive of residency and/or fellowship training

Experience or interest in partial hospitalization, co‑occurring disorders, or integrated care preferred

Strong commitment to collaborative, patient‑centered care
