Schedule Night Shift, 36 hours per week. Three 12‑hour shifts, 7:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m., with every third weekend and holiday rotation.
Job Summary Care Partners provide skilled bedside patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse and perform essential unit clerical duties.
Responsibilities
General Patient Care
Carry out the patient’s plan of care under RN direction
Deliver care requiring knowledge of aseptic technique, medical terminology and equipment
Assist nurses and physicians with procedures
Operate patient‑care equipment safely
Retrieve non‑routine care items
Complete unit clerical duties (orders transcription, medical‑record maintenance, unit receptionist duties)
Prepare rooms for admissions and discharges; complete belongings list
Direct timely attention to patients, families, and visitors
Round with purpose and engage in service‑recovery activities
Safety and Comfort
Correctly place restraints, monitor circulation and skin integrity, provide ROM and skin care, toileting, and socialization opportunities
Operate cardiac monitor (on/off, alarms, leads, pulmonary function)
Vital Signs / Measurement
Perform point‑of‑care testing, obtain vital signs, measure abdominal girth, weigh patients, record intake and output
Mobility and Exercise
Apply pneumatic stockings, ambulate, turn, and reposition patients
Respiratory Care
Assist with incentive spirometry, coughing, and deep breathing
Set up oxygen therapy; monitor pulse oximetry; provide tracheostomy care and suctioning
Oral / Tracheal Care
Perform oral care; provide tracheal care when stable
Wound Care
Place patient on specialty bed; perform dressing changes; assist with pin‑care; monitor traction weights
Bowel and Bladder Elimination
Administer enemas; perform straight catheterization; provide catheter care
Hygiene
Provide daily hygiene and grooming; mouth care; perineal care; toileting; provide fresh water as needed
Specimen Collection
Obtain urine (clean‑voided, timed, sterile catheter), sputum, blood (venipuncture), stool, and other specimens
Clerical
Answer phone within three rings; direct visitors and staff; notify physicians of new patients; assist with reception duties; manage pneumatic tube; prepare worksheets; update census; transfer admission/discharge information; supervise labeling and specimen orders; report critical lab values; complete pre‑op checklist; enter and update orders; fax orders during night shift; maintain charts and file documents
Chart Management
Initiate and assemble charts; maintain order; coordinate old charge retrieval; submit complete charts to Medical Records; process transfer charts; post allergy/isolation cards; sign death summary
Safety / Infection Control
Use standard precautions; dispose hazardous waste; keep environment clean; maintain low ambient noise; adhere to dress code; report risk management concerns; complete annual mandatory trainings (TB, ethics, safety, information security, abuse & neglect, blood‑borne pathogens, etc.)
Service Excellence
Provide courteous, respectful service; meet physical, emotional, and spiritual needs; respond promptly to call lights; apologize for delays; maintain confidentiality; explain procedures and education; foster teamwork; recommend efficient practice changes
Personal Accountability
Adhere to customer‑service standards; participate in continuous learning; identify strengths and improvement areas; assist in unit goal setting
Performance Improvement
Participate in data collection, suggest solutions, support PI processes and action plans; engage in research when appropriate
Age‑Appropriate Care
Apply knowledge of growth and development for infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics; involve family in decision making
Specialized Care
Apply restraints, manage pain plans, assess abuse or neglect, and coordinate appropriate consultations
Additional Duties
Perform other related duties as assigned or requested
Job Specifications
Minimum Education : High School graduate or GED equivalence; at least 18 years old.
Minimum Experience : None.
Required Course : Completion of learning program with an 80% pass on written and skills assessment.
Working Conditions :
Regular exposure to blood‑borne viruses.
Contact with diverse patients.
Unpleasant exposure (accidents, injuries, illness).
Emergency care duties.
Irregular hours and high workload pressure.
Physical Requirements :
Prolonged standing or walking.
Lifting, transferring, pushing, and/or moving patients or supplies.
Reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, lifting, pushing, pulling 100+ lb.
