Project Manager – Passenger Rail & Transit Engineering at HDR

HDR is an employee‑owned design and engineering firm that partners with transportation agencies to develop safe, sustainable infrastructure solutions. As a member of HDR’s Transportation Business Group, you will lead transit capital projects in Northern California, working directly with agencies such as BART, CCJPA, and Caltrain.

Responsibilities

Manage capital program engineering design and construction projects or programs from conceptual design through completion; project areas may include trackwork, station improvements, traction power and electrical systems, automated fare collection, and tasks related to state‑of‑good repair.

Perform construction project management duties: prepare cost estimates; develop and monitor project schedules and budgets; conduct field inspections; and monitor work in progress.

Ensure that the proactive project management system plans, organizes, controls, and evaluates all work.

Produce and coordinate multiple projects concurrently.

Implement, monitor, and support company policy.

Work with multidisciplinary teams and manage technical personnel.

Perform other duties as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree.

PMP certification.

Understanding of traction power systems for various transit agencies.

Ability to handle multiple assignments.

Excellent organizational, project management, and communication (written and verbal) skills.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.

10 years of related experience.

Minimum 5 years of project management experience.

Professional Engineer (PE) license.MS Office and MS Project experience (Access experience is a plus).

Demonstrated leadership, business development, and strategic planning skills.

Location Walnut Creek, California (Primary) – Other locations include Oakland, California.

Full‑time, Regular employment.

Compensation range: $162,225 – $231,750 annually, depending on skills, experience, education, and geography.
