Lab Service Engineer Base pay range: $35.00/hr - $42.00/hr

Our client, a large Semiconductor capital equipment manufacturer, is seeking a Lab Service Engineer for a 2‑year contract opportunity.

100% M-F onsite in Fremont, CA

Overview The Laboratory Service Engineer is responsible for performing preventative and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, system upgrades, and calibration on advanced equipment within the applications lab. This role supports R&D functions, prototype system installation, customer demonstrations, and may extend to direct field support at customer sites worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on applications lab equipment using required PPE, including APR (Air Purifying Respirator) and/or SCBA (Self‑Contained Breathing Apparatus) when handling hazardous materials.

Troubleshoot complex electro‑mechanical issues, perform system upgrades, and execute equipment calibrations.

Collaborate closely with Process Development, Hardware Engineering, and Software Engineering teams to support R&D activities, customer demos, and system commitments.

Install and support prototype equipment; develop procedures and documentation where little or none exist to support new design and R&D initiatives.

Provide onsite support at domestic and international customer locations to resolve tool or system issues requiring in‑person expertise.

Deliver aspects of field support and direct customer support, covering both hardware and software‑related issues.

Occasionally train Field Service Engineers, Engineering Technicians, Laboratory Service Engineers, or Process Engineers from regional customer accounts.

Required Skills & Experience

Strong electro‑mechanical troubleshooting background.

Ability to work independently using schematics, P&IDs, signal lists, and technical procedures.

Hands‑on experience with helium leak checking.

Ability to learn and utilize specialized applications and diagnostic tools required for the role.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; additional languages are a plus.

Strong decision‑making abilities and comfort operating in a fast‑paced, start‑up‑like R&D lab environment.

Preferred/Ideal Background

Previous experience as a Field Support Engineer or Product Support Engineer for Research or other semiconductor equipment manufacturers.

Demonstrated proficiency in helium leak checking procedures.

Familiarity working in new product introduction (NPI) labs.
