Power BI Architect / lead / developer
Location: Boston MA | Hybrid
Duration: Long Term Contract
Job Description Key Responsibilities Architecture & Strategy
Design and own the Power BI architecture, including datasets, dataflows, semantic models, and deployment pipelines
Define best practices, standards, and governance for Power BI development and usage
Ensure solutions are scalable, performant, and aligned with enterprise data strategy
Development & Delivery
Lead development of complex Power BI reports and dashboards
Build and optimize DAX measures, calculated tables, and Power Query transformations
Design star schemas and semantic models optimized for analytics
Implement row-level security (RLS) and manage workspace permissions
Leadership & Collaboration
Act as technical lead for Power BI initiatives
Mentor and review work of junior BI developers
Partner with data engineers, architects, and business stakeholders
Translate business requirements into technical solutions
Performance & Optimization
Troubleshoot and resolve performance issues in reports and datasets
Optimize refresh strategies, storage modes, and data models
Monitor usage and adoption metrics
Required Qualifications
7+ years in BI / analytics development
4+ years of hands‑on experience with Power BI
Strong expertise in: DAX
Power Query (M)
Data modeling (star/snowflake schemas)
Experience with SQL Server, Azure SQL, or other relational databases
Experience integrating Power BI with: Azure Synapse
Azure Data Factory
Databricks (preferred)
Strong understanding of security, governance, and deployment pipelines
Excellent communication and stakeholder‑facing skills
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
Microsoft certifications (PL-300, DP-500, or equivalent)
Experience with Power BI Premium / Fabric
Experience in regulated or enterprise environments
Knowledge of Python, R, or advanced analytics
Experience defining BI CoE (Center of Excellence) practices
Tools & Technologies

SQL Server / Azure SQL
Azure Data Services
Git / DevOps CI/CD pipelines
Microsoft Fabric (a plus)
