Overview Merrick is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Energy, Manufacturing & Bioprocessing Business Unit. This full‑time direct‑hire position will be responsible for engineering, design, coordination, client communications and construction administration. The role will be located in our Greenwood Village, CO; Tulsa, OK; or Chattanooga, TN offices. A hybrid schedule is supported. Annual salary range: $125,000–$160,000.

What You’ll Do

Apply knowledge in Food & Personal Care, Bioprocessing, Oil & Gas, Chemical, Power, Manufacturing, Industrial and shipbuilding facilities/systems (conceptual design).

Ensure understanding and compliance with owner’s requirements of the facility or corporate standards related to mechanical design.

Confirm and review applicable codes and standards such as IBC, ASME, API, PIP, NFPA.

Establish and document the mechanical systems basis of design and provide clarification/assumptions regarding design issues.

Develop scopes of work based on RFPs and pre‑bid meetings with clients.

Work with owner and construction management to validate construction cost and provide value‑engineering options.

Interpret scope‑of‑work and translate into executable project plans.

Manage project mechanical engineering and design team and oversee equipment and piping.

Perform and document engineering calculations for selecting code‑compliant systems and equipment.

Perform sizing and selection of equipment and systems.

Oversee piping group activities, 3D modeling, and support mechanical deliverables.

Perform pipe stress analysis using CAESAR II, NozzlePro, etc.

Design optimized piping system with project team.

Perform detailed reviews of piping isometrics, plans, specs, P&IDs, and other documents.

Mentor other mechanical engineers and designers.

Contribute to construction documents: drawings, specs, calculations, datasheets.

Oversee problem‑solving for field oversights, addressing RFIs.

Perform field inspections and reports.

Collaborate with Project Engineer/Manager to meet schedule and deliverables.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.

12+ years industry experience.

Registered PE or ability to obtain within first year.

Experience with Design/Build and EPC projects.

Leadership of engineering teams on design projects.

U.S. citizenship required for client projects.

Desired Qualifications

Pipe stress analysis using CAESAR II.

Experience with retrofits and upgrades at manufacturing, industrial, shipbuilding facilities.

HVAC and plumbing design for industrial facilities.

Knowledge of ASME B31.3, B31.1, Boiler & Pressure Vessel codes, PIP, API.

Experience managing personnel and project engineering.
