Assistant Professor in Civil & Environmental Engineering Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Stanford University invites applications for a tenure‑track faculty position at the junior level (Assistant Professor).

Position Overview The CEE Department is focused on creating solutions for cities, communities, and nature to thrive, with a particular emphasis on natural hazard and risk engineering. The successful candidate will be a leading faculty member in hazard characterization, risk assessment, or mitigation strategies for climate‑influenced risks (e.g., flooding, drought, wildfires, landslides, storms, urban heat).

Qualifications

Ph.D. completed or in progress in civil/ environmental engineering or a closely related field.

Evidence of a program of research with originality, quality, and potential impact.

Strong commitment to graduate and undergraduate teaching; expected to teach courses at both levels.

Ability to initiate and conduct interdisciplinary research; experience leading a graduate student team.

Demonstrated commitment to fostering a collaborative academic environment for colleagues, students, and staff from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in civil and environmental engineering.

Establish a research program in natural hazard and risk engineering.

Supervise and mentor graduate students, including Ph.D. candidates.

Contribute to departmental service, curriculum development, and outreach.

Engage in scholarship that advances the department’s mission of enabling cities, communities, and nature to thrive.

Reimbursement and Benefits Base salary range:

Assistant Professor: $141,247 – $159,910 for a nine‑month academic appointment. Summer salary is not included. Final compensation will be determined by experience, qualifications, budget, internal equity, and market pay.
