Overview This position provides legal and policy support to the Family Courts statewide. It serves as a legal advisor to the Board of Senior Family Court Judges and Directors, conducting legal research, drafting opinions, developing policies and procedures to ensure statewide consistency. The Attorney coordinates legislative efforts for the Family Courts, including drafting bills, providing testimony, monitoring and analyzing legislation, disseminating updates, and responding to legislative inquiries. The role also assists with revising and updating the Hawai‘i Family Court Rules and serves as the First Circuit Family Court Custodian of Records. Duties include responding to subpoenas duces tecum in coordination with the Deputy Attorney General, updating the Hawai‘i Family Court Records Retention Policy, advising staff on compliance, and performing other related duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
Conduct legal research, draft opinions, and develop policies and procedures for statewide consistency.
Coordinate legislative efforts, draft bills, testify, analyze and update legislation.
Review and update Hawai‘i Family Court Rules and maintain the First Circuit Family Court Custodian of Records.
Respond to subpoenas duces tecum, update Records Retention Policy, and advise staff on compliance.
Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited school of law.
One (1) year of work experience in legal research and writing, litigation, review of legislation, development of policies and procedures, and family court setting. Experience must include active participation in investigative research, legal writing, processing court documents, and knowledge of family court rules, policies, and procedures.
Active license to practice law in all courts of the State of Hawaii. Applicants with an inactive license may apply, but verification of a current active license is required upon selection.
