Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant – Pediatric Emergency Department University of Minnesota Physicians

is seeking a Certified Nurse Practitioner or a Certified Physician Assistant to join our Pediatric Emergency Department practice in Minneapolis, MN. The M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s ED is located on the west bank of the Mississippi River in Minneapolis and sees an annual volume of about 25,000 patients.

Overview

M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital is the #1 top‑ranked children’s hospital in the Twin Cities (2025‑2026 US News & World Report).

The emergency department is housed in a state‑of‑the‑art facility with two trauma/resuscitation rooms.

Our providers have access to more than 60 pediatric specialties.

The dedicated pediatric emergency medicine department is designed with children in mind, staffed by experienced and compassionate pediatric caregivers.

Responsibilities

Evaluate patients and perform comprehensive histories and physical examinations.

Compile patient medical data, including health history.

Order and interpret diagnostic tests (imaging, electrocardiograms, laboratory tests).

Perform therapeutic procedures appropriate for an emergency department setting (suturing, splinting, wound care, nerve blocks, etc.).

Develop and implement patient management plans, record progress notes, and assist with continuity of care.

Prescribe medications, including controlled substances, and medical devices.

Instruct and counsel patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens.

Maintain electronic medical records (Epic) to create and keep appropriate patient records.

Care for and communicate with patients, family members, co‑workers, and other medical professionals.

Demonstrate professionalism and uphold ethical principles concerning patient care, confidentiality, informed consent, and business practices.

Schedule

Shifts: 10 hours per day, primarily evening (12p‑10p).

Rotate weekends and holidays, working 1 in 3 weekends.

Openings: 0.5 – 1.0 FTE.

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited nursing school with formal Pediatric or Family Nurse Practitioner training, or graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.

2+ years of emergency medicine and/or pediatrics experience preferred.

Current MN RN license and approved or eligible for prescription privileges, or current PA license with prescriptive authority through the MN Board of Medical Practice.

Certified through ANCC/AANP or eligible to take the ANCC/AANP national exam, or through NCCPA and meeting threshold criteria for Credentialing and Privileges.

Compensation and Benefits The full‑time salary range is $130,002 – $164,797, commensurate with practice experience, and may include incentive compensation or specialty‑specific components. Salary prorated based on FTE. Additional earning potential for shift differential.
