Certified Lifeguard & Swim Instructor - Washington D.C. (2025-3499) Join Headfirst Summer Camps as a Certified Lifeguard & Swim Instructor. Job Details Headfirst Summer Camp Certified Lifeguards supervise pool safety during swim classes, assist in swim testing for recreational swim blocks, and follow pool policies. You provide enthusiasm and eye for safety, bringing camp to life.

Camper ages:

3-12 years old

Activities include:

Swimming supervision, reinforcement of safety policies and guidelines, administration of first aid and CPR, back boarding, and emergency procedures as needed

Schedule:

In‑season (late June – mid August) 7:45 am – 3:30 pm, Monday‑Friday

Pre‑season (early June) select weekends for training and site preparation

Compensation:

$13 – $18 per hour

Responsibilities

Keep the Aquatics Area Safe and bring a love of swimming to life

Supervise swimming activities and ensure policy, guideline, and safety procedures are followed and understood by campers and staff, with retraining as needed

Administer first aid if injury occurs, rescue swimmers in distress or danger of drowning, and perform CPR and/or artificial respiration if necessary

Implement Headfirst’s safety protocols for supervision, bathrooms, emergency policies, and pool safety procedures

Attend in‑season safety trainings and work to grow swim instruction skills and first‑responder abilities

Execute morning and afternoon carpool, welcoming families by name with enthusiasm and coordination

Nurture Physical, Social & Emotional Safety

Work directly with campers to support emotional, physical and social development through exploration and appropriate activities

Assess each camper’s individual swim needs and encourage appropriate growth in swim skills

Represent Headfirst to families and facility partners, embodying brand values daily

Participate in efforts to care for camp facility and community

Be an active member of the Camp Team

Arrive on time, communicate schedule changes promptly, and remain reliable and team‑oriented

Show flexibility with assignments and willingness to support other programs

Handle curveballs with resilience and a proactive mindset focused on camper experience and team success

Qualifications

Must be at least 16 years old with at least two completed years of high school or equivalent experience

Experience is preferred but not required

Must be able to swim and remain in a swimming pool for extended periods

Capable of working around small children, including sitting, standing, running, and climbing stairs all day

Endure hot, outdoor environments while supervising dynamic activities for extended periods

Lift and carry up to 30 pounds occasionally

Commit to a cell‑phone free policy, storing devices in a locked pouch during shifts

Required Certification

Lifeguard certification and First Aid & CPR certification, or ability to obtain both prior to May 30

Certifications are required by the first day of camp – eligibility for lifeguard certification bonus
