Primary Duties Deputy Division Chief will assist with managing the division’s Assistant Attorneys General and other staff. Supervisory responsibility will include overseeing the investigation and prosecution of cases, reviewing search warrants sought in connection with investigations, and mentoring division staff and assisting them with skills development. The Deputy Division Chief will also handle his or her own caseload of primarily narcotics and firearms‑related matters from investigation through sentencing. The work involves extensive collaboration with law enforcement, grand jury investigations throughout the Commonwealth, complex motion practice, and frequent appearances before the Commonwealth’s District and Superior Courts for motions, pleas, and trials. The Deputy Division Chief will be expected to communicate effectively with outside agencies, and to maintain and foster those relationships.

Qualifications

Must be a practicing attorney and a member of the Massachusetts bar.

Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in state criminal practice, including grand jury investigations, motion practice, and trials.

Previous management experience preferred.

Ability to handle a large and advanced caseload and with substantial Superior Court experience.

A background in handling narcotics‑related investigations and prosecution is preferred, with extensive experience and knowledge in reviewing search warrants and wiretap warrants.

Effective written and verbal communications skills.

Ability to think strategically and exercise sound judgment.

A valid Massachusetts driver’s license is required, as travel is necessary to various courts.
