Job Description
As the Tax Transformation and Automation Manager, you will work with large publicly owned and private companies to evaluate existing processes and challenges across the tax function, make recommendations for improvements, and follow through with tax process design and implementation. You will collaborate with team members, practice leadership, and a diverse client base, playing a key role in project planning, management, delivery, testing, and go‑live support of engagements. From day one, you will manage a team of professionals and coordinate day‑to‑day activities to keep projects on time and within budget.
Your day‑to‑day may include:
Participating in sales and marketing efforts including speaking engagements, drafting proposals, and attending sales meetings
Managing and leading several active projects
Developing and delivering key project documentation including requirements, design, and test plans
Serving as the Project Manager for third‑party tax software implementations (e.g., Corptax, ONESOURCE, Oracle TRCS, Longview, Bloomberg) and custom software development projects
Working closely with clients to gather feedback and translate it into Grant Thornton service offerings that support their overall tax objectives
Assisting with developing and leading staff to perform core project activities and supervising several staff resources during long‑term projects
Participating in sales and proposal development meetings; networking and developing key relationships both within Grant Thornton and externally
Managing a broad range of complex tax technology projects from commencement to completion, with a proven track record of delivering projects to a wide range of clients
Other duties as assigned
Technical skills and qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or another related technical field
Secondary degree or minor in MIS, computer science, or data analytics (preferred)
Five to ten years of public accounting, consulting, or industry experience
Certified Public Accountant or other professional designation (required)
Working knowledge of data management and data analytics concepts
Strong foundational understanding of tax concepts
Experience with tax technical matters, for example: ASC 740, corporate consolidated returns, partnership returns
Experience with tax technology such as Corptax, ONESOURCE, Oracle TRCS, Longview
Experience with data analytics, transformation, and visualization tools such as Alteryx, Microsoft Power BI, Tableau
Strong computer skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to travel as needed; expect up to 40% travel
Salary ranges by location:
Chicago, IL:
$136,000‑$204,000;
Newport Beach, CA, Bellevue, WA, New York, NY:
$146,900‑$220,300;
San Francisco & San Jose:
$156,400‑$234,600
