Phlebotomist

The primary role of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various duties, troubleshooting issues, providing training, and making workflow recommendations.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.
  • Update patient information and ensure accurate collection and storage of specimens according to established procedures.
  • Explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collections, such as urine or fecal, in a clear and courteous manner.
  • Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  • Fully understand physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
  • Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
  • Package specimens for transport and store them at required temperatures.
  • Follow procedures specific to protocol to maintain the integrity of specimens for transport.
  • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Attend annual department trainings.
  • Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Essential Skills:

  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
  • Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 6 months-2 years of related experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience in medical, pediatric, and geriatric patient care.
  • Expertise in healthcare, drawing blood, and handling patient information.

Job Type & Location:

This is a Contract position based out of The Villages, FL.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $19.50/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
