Part‑time Controller for Nonprofit Organizations

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the outsourced Controller/CFO for multiple nonprofit clients.
  • Transform nonprofit client financial departments to help them meet their mission.
  • Prepare and present financial reports for management and board decision‑making.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to accounting, operations, internal controls, and compliance policies and procedures.
  • Handle transactional activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable (revenue recognition and billing), payroll, general accounting, reconciliations, month‑end close, and maintain workpapers.
  • Conduct analysis, create data visualizations, and perform budgeting and forecasting.
  • Manage grant support, allocations, and funder reporting.
  • Prepare for and manage annual audits.
  • Provide client and staff training opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Passionate about working with or supporting nonprofit organizations.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Accounting or Finance.
  • 5‑7+ years of accounting experience.
  • Experience working in a remote environment preferred.
  • Ability to manage and lead multiple clients independently & respond timely.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience with multiple GL packages, especially QuickBooks, and electronic bill pay systems.
  • Nonprofit accounting, public accounting, or consulting experience is a plus.
  • CPA certification is a plus.
  • Bilingual‑English/Spanish is a plus.
  • Customized cover letter explaining interest and qualifications is required.

Compensation

Starting hourly rate: $50 to $65 per hour for this non‑exempt position. Total compensation may increase with overtime pay and eligibility for various bonuses. A professional development reimbursement and technology stipend are also provided annually.
