Medical Director Psychiatrist - Department of Mental Health Hawthorn Children’s Psychiatric Hospital, 1901 Pennsylvania Ave, St. Louis, MO 63133

Scheduled Hours – M-F 8:00am – 4:30pm

Hawthorn Children’s Psychiatric Hospital (HCPH) is a 44-bed children’s psychiatric hospital that is owned and operated by the Missouri Department of Mental Health (DMH). It is DMH’s only free‑standing children’s psychiatric hospital in Missouri and provides treatment services to youth who are residents of Missouri. HCPH is accredited by The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.

Your Responsibilities

Developing and reviewing procedures, policies, rules, and regulations.

Supervising and evaluating the medical team of child psychiatrists.

Coordination of child psychiatric fellows practicum experience, including supervision. A faculty appointment at Washington University Medical School in St. Louis may be arranged.

Leading the Medical Department, Medical Records Review Committee, and Medications Usage Committee.

Attending weekly rounds meetings.

Collaborating with the Intake department to facilitate patient admissions.

This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer. Normal working hours are generally 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday but require work schedule flexibility for administrative oversight of patient care duties. Additionally, there are monthly Administrator-On-Call duties of one week in length that are part of a rotating schedule shared with the executive team.

Minimum Qualifications A medical degree (MD, DO). Current and valid Missouri Licensure through the Missouri State Board of Registration for the Healing Arts is required. The successful candidate should also be board‑certified or board‑eligible in Child and Adolescent psychiatry.

Preferred Skills The ideal candidate will have experience providing psychiatric care to a pediatric population, including the diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric disorders. Administrative experience of survey and accreditation requirements for psychiatric practice and documentation is desired.
