Opportunity

One of the nation’s largest and most respected labor and employment law firms seeks a seasoned cybersecurity and data privacy attorney to join its growing Data Protection and Cybersecurity Team in Chicago. Key Responsibilities

  • Advise clients on privacy and data security obligations under federal, state, and international laws including GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, HIPAA, and sector‑specific regulations
  • Counsel on incident notification requirements and manage breach notification processes across multiple jurisdictions
  • Defend regulatory investigations and enforcement actions related to data privacy and security by FTC, state attorneys general, and other regulators
  • Manage comprehensive cybersecurity breach response including forensic coordination, legal analysis, and stakeholder communication
  • Handle data breach litigation including class actions, regulatory proceedings, and contractual disputes
  • Collaborate with technically‑skilled professionals including forensic investigators, IT security personnel, and threat intelligence experts
  • Distill complex technical and legal issues for non‑technical team members, clients, and executives
  • Maintain multiple priorities and anticipate potential issues in fast‑paced, time‑sensitive environments
  • Provide proactive privacy compliance counsel including policy development, vendor management, and risk assessment
  • Work independently on sophisticated matters while collaborating effectively with colleagues across offices and practice areas
  • Develop and maintain client relationships with regional and national organizations
  • Stay current on evolving privacy laws, cybersecurity threats, and industry best practices

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA‑accredited law school
  • Active state bar admission where the associate resides; Illinois Bar preferred
  • 5+ years of substantive experience in privacy and cybersecurity law
  • Demonstrated expertise in data privacy compliance, breach response, or cybersecurity litigation
  • Strong awareness and working knowledge of GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, and emerging state privacy statutes
  • Exceptional project management skills with proven ability to handle multiple complex, time‑sensitive matters simultaneously
  • Outstanding written and oral communication abilities
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively as part of a team
  • Motivation to learn and understand technology, forensic investigations, and cybersecurity concepts
  • Professional commitment and strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience with regulatory investigations and enforcement proceedings preferred
  • Background in employment law or understanding of employer‑related privacy issues is a plus
