3-6 Year Privacy & Cyber Litigation Associate – Data Breach & FCRA Focus

Base pay range:
$260,000 - $350,000 per year.
About This Opportunity A nationally recognized law firm is seeking a Privacy and Cyber Associate to join its dynamic litigation team in Washington, DC. The ideal candidate will have 3 to 6 years of significant litigation and case‑management experience, with a strong interest or background in privacy and cyber law. This position offers attorneys the opportunity to work on cutting‑edge data privacy litigation, including data breach class actions, Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) matters, and other privacy‑related disputes.
Key Responsibilities
Manage day‑to‑day case activities for complex privacy and cybersecurity litigation matters, including data breach class actions and FCRA disputes.
Lead fact investigations in collaboration with clients, forensic experts, and technical consultants to understand data breach incidents and develop defense strategies.
Research legal issues and develop litigation strategies addressing novel questions of privacy law, cybersecurity regulations, and consumer protection statutes.
Draft sophisticated pleadings, including answers, motions to dismiss, summary judgment motions, and other dispositive motions in federal and state court.
Conduct and defend depositions of plaintiffs, class representatives, technical experts, and corporate witnesses.
Negotiate with opposing counsel on discovery disputes, settlement discussions, and case‑management matters.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including corporate counsel, incident‑response professionals, and cybersecurity experts to deliver comprehensive legal solutions.
Stay current on developments in privacy law, including state statutes (CCPA, CPRA, VCDPA), federal regulations, and emerging case law on data‑breach litigation standing and damages.
Deliver smaller projects with limited supervision while confidently managing workflow for larger, more complex matters.
Qualifications
Juris Doctor (JD) from a top‑tier law school with excellent academic credentials.
Bar admission in the state of practice (DC Bar or ability to waive in required); additional bar admissions welcomed.
3 to 6 years of litigation and case‑management experience, with demonstrated ability to handle complex commercial litigation matters.
Strong analytical and communication skills, capable of distilling complex technical and legal issues into clear, persuasive arguments.
Experience managing client relationships and serving as a primary point of contact for sophisticated clients.
Federal clerkship experience strongly preferred, demonstrating exceptional legal research, writing, and analytical abilities.
Experience with Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) or other privacy‑related statutes is a significant plus, including knowledge of TCPA, VPPA, BIPA, or data‑breach litigation.
Technical aptitude and interest in cybersecurity issues, with the ability to understand data systems, breach methodologies, and technical forensics.
Ability to work independently on smaller matters while collaborating effectively on larger, multi‑attorney cases.
Strong work ethic, commitment to excellence, and proactive approach to case‑management and problem‑solving.
Excellent legal writing and oral advocacy skills, with experience drafting dispositive motions and arguing before federal and state courts.
