Executive Director – Architecture, City of New York, Department of Design and Construction, Division of Public Buildings
Full-Time – 35 Hours weekly; Work Location: 30-30 Thomson Avenue, NY, 11101.
Open to all qualified candidates; applicants who are permanent Administrative Architects or have filed for the promotional or open‑competitive exams are strongly encouraged. Candidates must include notice of results or indicate permanent status.
Responsibilities
Supervise the design review process overall; oversee staff performing technical reviews.
Assist the Front‑End Planning unit with detailed project scoping and develop detailed Project Requirements for Design Build projects.
Assess the appropriateness, completeness and overall quality of all design projects within the Public Buildings portfolio relative to DDC’s Design and Construction Excellence criteria.
Oversee and direct all projects in the In‑House Design portfolio; participate in periodic updates of the Design Consultant Guide, BIM Guide, and other related documents, policies and protocols.
Monitor tasks and assignments jointly with Engineering, Sustainable Design and Bid Packaging unit leaders to ensure compliance with schedule and budget commitments for projects within A&E’s workflow.
Interface with sponsor agencies, consultants, contractors, and technical staff.
Minimum Qualifications
Valid New York State Registration as an Architect.
Six (6) years of full‑time paid experience in architectural work, at least two (2) years of which have been as an administrative architect.
Preferred Skills
Thorough understanding of current architecture/engineering design principles and practices, NYC Building Codes, NYC Energy Code and related building design, construction, project management and delivery methodologies.
Excellent managerial skills and strong written and verbal communication abilities; prior experience in a managerial, administrative or supervisory position.
AutoCAD proficiency; BIM and LEED AP preferred.
