Director of Educational Services Overview Melmark is a nonprofit organization that provides clinically sophisticated, evidence‑based special education, residential, vocational, and therapeutic services for children and adults diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders, developmental and intellectual disabilities, acquired brain injuries, medical complexities, and other neurological and genetic disorders. The Director of Educational Services assists the Senior Director in developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and oversees classroom educational services to ensure compliance with licensing, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.

Responsibilities

Ensure consistent implementation of all EnvisionSmart™ systems – Clinical, Academic, MEDS, Regulatory, Fiscal, Staff Training and Supervision, Corrective Action.

Assure compliance with PDE and other regulatory/licensing agencies, respond to information requests, and maintain school licenses.

Collaborate with the Director of School Services to achieve strategic plan goals, ensuring staff compliance with federal and state regulations, Melmark policies, and service delivery models.

Provide oversight of the IEP planning process: prepare quality documents, schedule annual and quarterly meetings, manage discharge and transition planning, and maintain regulatory timelines.

Work with Senior Director of Clinical Services and Directors of School Services to develop behavior support programs that use least‑restrictive strategies, proactive skill development, functional communication training, and family involvement.

Ensure team members follow the bi‑weekly student review process, including preparation, review, and decision‑making based on data.

Conduct ongoing assessment of student progress and prepare monthly and quarterly metrics for the Senior Leadership team.

Initiate Melmark’s new admission baseline protocol, reviewing records, arranging environments, performing functional assessments, and designing initial programs.

Supervise the Adaptive Physical Education instructor, ensuring integration with school services.

Supervise the Administrative Assistant, ensuring timely communication with families and school districts.

Supervise Curriculum Coordinators and Vocational Coordinator, ensuring evidence‑based instruction, assessment completion, and inventory management.

Respond to staff calls for assistance and assist coworkers as needed throughout the building.

Facilitate proactive communication with departments (recruitment, finance, operations, IT, therapies, nursing, IEP, training & development, clinical, regulatory, residential) to meet program needs.

Requirements

Master’s Degree in Education or Special Education (minimum).

Level II Teacher Certification required; Principal or Supervisor of Special Education Certification highly preferred.

Five to ten years of teaching and supervising experience in a public or approved private school/special education setting.

Knowledge of Pennsylvania Department of Education (PA Code Titles 22, Chapters 14, 51, 59) and federal IDEA standards.

Strong background in educational services and curricula, emphasizing special education, acquired brain injury, intellectual/developmental disabilities, and autism spectrum disorders.

Experience applying Applied Behavior Analysis principles and evidence‑based instructional strategies.

Schedule and Salary

Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM (fully on‑site)

Salary: $100,000–$110,000
