Gastroenterologist is responsible for diagnosing, treating, and managing disorders and diseases of the digestive system, including the stomach, intestines, liver, pancreas, and esophagus. The role involves performing endoscopic procedures, providing patient consultations, developing treatment plans, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive care.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct detailed patient history evaluations, physical examinations, and assessment of gastrointestinal symptoms.

Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as blood tests, imaging (CT, MRI), and endoscopic procedures.

Diagnose a wide range of conditions including GERD, ulcers, IBS, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, liver disease, and cancers of the gastrointestinal system.

Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, which may include medication, lifestyle changes, or surgical interventions.

Perform endoscopic procedures such as colonoscopies, endoscopies, and biopsies to diagnose and treat gastrointestinal issues.

Prescribe and monitor medications for gastrointestinal conditions.

Manage chronic diseases such as IBD or cirrhosis, ensuring patient follow-up and ongoing care.

Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures with precision.

Assess and screen patients requiring colonoscopy as part of a periodic comprehensive screening program (IFHAS).

Manage complications and provide appropriate follow-up care.

Keep up-to-date with advancements in endoscopic technologies and techniques.

Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including surgeons, oncologists, dietitians, and radiologists, to provide comprehensive care.

Refer patients to other specialists when necessary.

Participate in case discussions and multidisciplinary team meetings.

Educate patients and their families about gastrointestinal diseases, preventive measures, treatment options, and healthy lifestyle choices.

Stay informed of the latest research, advancements, and treatments in gastroenterology.

Education Medical degree from an accredited institution; specialization in Gastroenterology (board‑certified/board‑eligible). Active DOH license as Consultant/Specialist Gastroenterologist or equivalent.

Experience

Minimum of 3‑5 years of clinical experience as a Gastroenterologist in a hospital or clinic setting.

Demonstrate manual dexterity necessary to complete procedures and patient examinations.

Concentrate for extended periods of time.

Tolerate frequent interruptions and accommodate readily to changing work priorities.

Readily and effectively communicate with others, both verbally and in writing.

Good command of written and spoken English and Arabic.

Presentable and pleasant personality.

Proactive and approachable.

Perform required physical activities, including standing, walking, kneeling, lifting, stretching, stooping and repetitive movements.
