Ship Superintendent
Location: Honolulu, Hawaii
Reports To: Vice President of Programs
Position Summary PSI is the largest privately owned shipyard in Hawaii, with two of the largest dry docks in the state. Established in 1944, professional support staff that includes engineering, project management, QA, EHS, accounting, contracts, and human resources. We are seeking an experienced Ship Superintendent to join our Project Management team. The Ship Superintendent reports to the VP of Programs and manages a portion of ship repair maintenance packages, ensuring work is completed on time and within budget. This role thrives in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment with shared responsibility for project outcomes.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Manage, plan, and coordinate ship repair work items as part of the Project Team.
Coordinate with other departments (QA, safety, production), subcontractors, OEM technical reps, and customers throughout the repair.
Read and understand ship repair specifications, drawings, and schematics.
Assist with labor cost estimating.
Operate effectively in an industrial maritime environment.
Demonstrate strong communication and teamwork skills.
Education / Training / Skills
Engineering degree or related field; or equivalent work experience.
PMP certification desirable.
Knowledge of federal contracts helpful.
Understanding of shipboard lockout and tag‑out procedures.
Experience in work sequencing and scheduling.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and general computer skills.
Qualification / Requirements
Proof of legal right to work in the United States and U.S. citizenship (security clearance required for base access).
Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) Credential for access to federally controlled work sites.
Pass a post‑offer drug screening and background check before employment begins.
Valid State of Hawaii REAL ID‑compliant driver’s license in good standing, or a valid U.S. passport plus a Hawaii driver’s license if not a REAL ID‑compliant license.
Reliable transportation to work and job sites on time.
Flexibility in work hours.
