Associate Football Strength & Conditioning Coach

The Athletics department is seeking an Associate Football Strength & Conditioning Coach. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position. The Associate Football Strength and Conditioning Coach assists in the organization, administration, and promotion of all aspects of the Oregon State Strength and Conditioning (Athlete Development) Program. This position specifically assists in the design, supervision and evaluation of the Strength and Conditioning Program for Football and each specialized position the sport affords. Coaching includes instruction and athletic supervision of the athletes, program management for the specific area assigned and preparation of recommendations to the Head Football Strength and Conditioning Coach/Head Football Coach. The Associate Coach will adhere to the policies set forth by direct supervisors, Head Coach/Director and Athletic Director, as well as Oregon State University, the PAC-12 Conference and The National Collegiate Athletic Association.

Supervise and manage the day-to-day operations of the Athlete Development Program, including teaching, coaching, and educational activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • 10% SUPERVISION: Provides leadership, supervision, and direction for assigned staff. Plans, assigns, and reviews work. Establishes goals for each position and assesses performance through completion of evaluations. Hires, trains, promotes employees. Disciplines or effectively recommends discipline up to and including dismissal. Addresses grievances, developing a framework for corrective actions as necessary. Mentors staff and develops plans that improve skill set and competency.
  • 65% COACHING / INSTRUCTION: Provides consultation and expert advice to Head Football Strength Coach, Head Football Coach, and team members regarding the progress of each student athlete relative to their specific position for assigned sport(s). Prepares, plans, conducts, and evaluates practice sessions, as directed. Teaches individuals and groups of players specific tasks and skills before, during and after practice, during season and off-season. Teaches progressions and drills during daily practice time. Is available to coaches and players before, during and after practices.
  • 15% TEAM ADMINISTRATION: Plans long and short-term team objectives under the leadership of the Head Coach. Establishes requirements for team members in terms of athletic progress.
  • 5% RECRUITMENT: Prepares and distributes recruiting information. Participates in campus visits with prospective student-athletes and their parents.
  • 5% CAMPUS & COMMUNITY COMMUNICATION: Interacts with various campus offices, departments, as well as individual faculty and staff members. Serves as guest speaker at public events on behalf of OSU Athletics. Will be involved in coordination of a Youth Program (camp) and may have one-on-one access to youth under the age of 18.

What You Will Need:

  • Master Degree in related field
  • 6 years NCAA or Professional full-time (GA included) strength and conditioning experience
  • 2 years of load monitoring and reporting experience using, but not limited to, Catapult, VALD force plates, Force Decks force plates, heart rate, velocity-based strength training, BridgeAthletic
  • Experience in managing and conducting return to play training for football student-athletes.
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (C.S.C.S) OR Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (S.C.C.C.) certification.
  • CPR / AED /First Aid certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in a manner that shows respect and inclusivity for student athletes, student workers, and colleagues

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule:

  • Some evening, weekend and early morning work is required.
  • The employee in this position will often be required to lift/carry/push/pull objects weighing 200 pounds.
