This role focuses on activities related to the support services functions, including dietary and food services, environmental services, general facilities, repair and maintenance, parking, sterilization, and transportation. It ensures all required support activities are completed timely and meet quality standards. It also involves operating, monitoring, maintaining, troubleshooting, and replacing mechanical components and systems such as electrical equipment, HVAC, and plumbing.

Job Overview This position carries out physical plant operations, preventive maintenance, and on‑call services to maintain patient comfort and safety.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Second‑class fireman license *or* two (2) years of experience in plant operations.

Preferred Qualifications

Second‑class fireman license.

Duties and Responsibilities

Read, record, and inspect heating, plumbing, refrigeration, HVAC systems including high‑pressure steam boilers, chillers, compressors, pumps, motors, electric and pneumatic controls, water storage tanks, dumps, drains, etc. on a regular basis.

Perform preventive maintenance on systems and equipment such as high‑pressure steam boilers, air conditioning systems, tonnage package units, ice machines, compressors, pumps, motors, fans, air units, emergency lights, and generators as assigned.

Respond to emergency calls relating to loss of power, steam, water, heat, ice, and snow; operate appropriate emergency equipment including generators, power transfer switches, boilers, water systems, etc.

Diagnose and rectify problems within the physical plant (loss of heat, hot water, power outage, loud noises, hot bearings, overheating units, broken belts, jammed controls, etc.).

Notify authorized personnel of impending problems or major equipment failures requiring specialized repair.

Start, stop, and operate all equipment according to established procedures and criteria.

Perform preventive maintenance tasks and repairs as assigned.

Enter operating data in logs and logbooks; prepare deficiency lists and reports as needed.

Maintain collaborative, team relationships with peers and colleagues to contribute to group goals and foster a positive work environment.

Complete all required training and courses provided by the department.

Physical Requirements

Frequent standing and walking with the ability to stand and/or walk for eight (8) hours.

Regularly climb flights of stairs and ladders.

Occasionally lift heavy loads.

Wears appropriate personal protective equipment (masks, gloves, eye protection) as required.

May be exposed to the elements during regular rounds.

Must have visual acuity to read gauges and inspect machines.

Physically able to perform the duties and responsibilities outlined above.

Skills & Abilities

Proficient in communicating, reading, and writing in English.

Basic computer skills.

Ability to multi‑task and meet established deadlines.

Ability to resolve routine to complex problems daily, communicate well, and understand directions.

Ability to make independent decisions and exercise good judgment.

Ability to handle stress due to constant pressure and attention to detail.

Pay Range Salary: $90,000.00–$110,000.00 (based on minimum qualifications).
