Overview The Middle Market and Corporate Banking Portfolio Manager collaborates with Relationship Managers on deal structure and underwriting. Responsibilities include preparing loan presentations and deal vetting memoranda, monitoring loan covenant compliance and financial exception reporting, and ensuring timely reviews and renewals of corporate loans. The role also involves accompanying Relationship Managers on development calls, attending client meetings and Credit Committee meetings, and cross‑selling bank products and services.
Responsibilities
Assessment of credit quality and proper risk rating for the loan portfolio.
Determination of data required for loan packages.
Portfolio management decisions.
Identification of existing customers as potential candidates for expanded services in collaboration with Relationship Managers.
Application of corporate portfolio management skills: project analysis, loan underwriting, risk analysis, packaging and presentation, collateral analysis, past‑due notice management.
Interaction with Audit, Loan Review and OCC as needed.
Monitoring loan compliance covenants, financial and collateral exceptions, and past dues.
Joint client information calls and follow‑up calls with Relationship Managers.
Promotion of customer relations.
Level II Additional Responsibilities
Time management.
Day‑to‑day collaboration with Middle Market and Corporate Banking personnel to learn fundamentals of loan portfolio management, structuring, underwriting and risk analysis.
Assistance in monitoring loan covenant compliance, financial and collateral exceptions, and past dues.
Repeat responsibilities from the Level I section (assessment, data determination, portfolio decisions, candidate identification, application of skills, audit interaction, monitoring, joint calls, customer relations).
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or related field, or equivalent experience.
Minimum of three years of corporate lending/credit experience.
Experience with corporate, real estate or corporate lending risk analysis.
Well‑developed understanding of corporate lending and credit approval processes, bank policies and external regulations.
Detailed knowledge of credit analysis practice and procedure.
Familiarity with products and services offered by financial services institutions.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Developed decision‑making abilities.
Proven ability to build relationships.
Time management and organization skills.
Computer skills including word processing and spreadsheet applications.
Effective analytical skills.
Ability to interact with external and internal customers.
Level II Additional Qualification
Minimum of five years of corporate lending/credit experience.
Fully developed understanding of corporate lending and credit approval processes, bank policies and external regulations.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Strong analytical skills.
Experience with corporate, real estate or corporate lending risk analysis.
Comprehensive knowledge of credit analysis practice and procedure with understanding of complicated credit structures.
Familiarity with products and services offered by financial services institutions.
