Chief Engineer, Aerospace Electrification Join Eaton’s corporate Research Labs team as a Chief Engineer supporting Aerospace Electrification. This position may be based in Golden, CO; Raleigh, NC; Southfield, MI; Galesburg, MI; Menomonee Falls, WI; Pittsburgh, PA; Beachwood, OH; or Irvine, CA, with other large Eaton locations considered. Candidates must be within 50 miles of the above sites as relocation assistance is not available. Up to 25% travel is expected.

Salary is $145,500.03 – $213,400.04 per year with eligibility for a variable incentive program. The range is a guideline only; final compensation considers skills, experience, and market conditions.

What You’ll Do As the Chief Engineer you will be a recognized authority in the field, working closely with electrification experts to develop technology and strategies for broad aerospace applications. You will lead global research programs, manage project schedules, define scope and cost, and prepare progress reports for all innovation themes under your control. You will cultivate relationships with external technical communities (academia, national labs, government agencies, industry groups, international events), mentor staff, and consult with stakeholders and customers.

Responsibilities

Create and define research and technology-focused themes, participate in defining technology investment strategy, and lead complex global technology realization programs in Aerospace Electrification.

Work with GTDs across Eaton globally to set technical competencies and capabilities, refine lab requirements, and attract technical talent.

Develop emerging Energy Systems research programs based on breakthrough technologies essential for an energy transition, reliability, and efficiency in aerospace.

Advance state-of-the-art energy and power systems, identifying and developing commercialization opportunities with Eaton’s global businesses.

Lead technical direction through aerospace electrification roadmaps and collaborate with multi‑disciplinary distributed teams.

Identify program/project risks and influence key stakeholders for pivot/persevere/kill decisions.

Communicate major changes in project or program achievements to cross‑functional teams at all levels.

Coordinate research focus with partnering university consortiums and national lab initiatives.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.

Minimum 15 years of professional experience, including aerospace electrification industry exposure.

Experience with government proposals, programs, or contracts.

U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, refugee, or asylee status (required for export-controlled information access).

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.

Principal Investigator experience in a research setting.

Position Criteria

Expertise in aerospace propulsion or power systems.

Expertise in electric distribution architecture, circuit protection, advanced control system design, energy storage, or thermal/air management for aircraft.

Proven leadership of engineering groups and mentorship of talent for concept and prototype development.

Experience in developing proposals and securing government-funded transportation electrification programs.

Track record in leading externally-funded programs and interacting with customers and partners in advanced R&D organizations.
