Job Description The
Coding Supervisor
is responsible for daily supervision and operational oversight of outpatient coding staff and specific functions of outpatient hospital coding (ICD‑10‑CM and CPT‑4/HCPCS). The position determines workflow priorities, reviews outpatient records through GHS Electronic Health Record (EPIC), 3M CAC, 3M R2 360 Encoder, and ARMS applications, monitors staff performance, and ensures accurate code assignment and timely billing for Ambulatory Surgery, Observation, ED, Ancillary, and Clinic encounters. The supervisor generates routine and ad‑hoc reports, trains and develops staff, and works with the Corporate Coding Manager to develop coding processes, policies, and procedures. This role reports to the Corporate Coding Manager.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED (required).
Five (5) or more years of outpatient surgical coding and revenue cycle experience in an acute care facility with high ED volume and outpatient services (required).
Knowledge of inpatient coding (preferred).
Experience with 3M 360 R2 CAC (preferred).
Certification: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), CCS‑P, CPC, or COC.
Certification: Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or RHIT.
Ability to multi‑task, prioritize, and meet timelines.
Good interpersonal and communication skills when dealing with physicians and other healthcare professionals.
Ability to research root causes related to coding gaps or drop accounts.
