The Business Unit Risk Advisor 1 serves as a first line of defense partner to Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Data leadership in the Technology, Data, & Operations organization to assist in identifying, assessing, and monitoring risk in alignment with the company’s enterprise risk framework.
We are looking for a dedicated risk professional with foundational knowledge of financial services and technology operations, with a growing understanding of risk disciplines such as operational, technology, compliance, and third-party risk, including AI and data risk. Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, relationship‑building skills, and the ability to adapt in a dynamic risk environment are essential. The Business Unit Risk Advisor I is expected to contribute to building a strong risk culture and to collaborate effectively with risk and technology teams to support sound risk management practices.
***This role will be full-time, onsite (5 days a week) at Truist core location (NC, GA, VA)***

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide risk advice and serve as risk SME to assigned Business Unit across all risk types to promote and strengthen compliance with applicable regulations, policies, procedures and risk program requirements.
Partner with first and second line defense teammates across assigned business areas in identifying, escalating and remediating risk control gaps to ensure compliance with Enterprise Risk Management programs and policy.
Assess, test and effectively challenge the assigned Business Unit to aid in the evaluations and self-identification of risk control weaknesses. Assist with evaluation and assessment of the remediation efforts to confirm adequate resolution.
Aggregate, report and communicate risk results to inform teammate stakeholders of the existing risk environment and to elevate material concerns to Business Unit leaders and committees.
Monitor and report on emerging risks potentially impactful to Business Unit partners and Truist. Implement processes and record retention routines necessary to ensure Business Unit compliance with enterprise risk monitoring requirements.
Oversee risk appetite and business risk strategy ensuring adherence to defined limits. Effort includes risk identification, risk acceptance and risk prioritization of current and emerging risks.
Understand Business Unit goals, provide risk management expertise in strategic projects and seek engagement from appropriate peers for guidance and input.
Other activities and special projects, as deemed required.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or related field, or equivalent education and training.
6+ years of experience in a financial institution with emphasis on risk management or equivalent work experience and training, and/or equivalent education, training and experience.
Experience in compliance and operational risk mitigation and remediation.
Strong communication, interpersonal, presentation and negotiation skills.
Proven leadership and management skills.
Strong analytical, problem solving and decision‑making skills in complex environments and with senior leadership.
Strong time management and organizational skills adaptable to a dynamic and complex work environment; capable of handling multiple projects concurrently.
Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office software products.
Ability to travel, occasionally overnight.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Data Management, Computer Science, Information Management, Risk Management, or equivalent experience.
10 years of large financial institution or relevant experience; may be combined technology delivery lifecycle, data management, automation and/or Artificial Intelligence experience.
Relevant Artificial Intelligence, Robotic Process Automation governance and/or delivery experience.
Professional designation related to risk management or field of assigned business unit(s).
Ability to provide effective challenge to senior levels of leadership.
Proficiency and knowledge in ARCHER GRC Platform.
Demonstrated experience in formal risk roles (e.g., Business Unit Risk Management, Technology Risk Oversight, Audit), specifically in support of Technology Organizations.
Experience in creating issues to mitigate risk and experience validating evidence for issue closure.
