Responsibilities

Responsible for selecting and applying standard engineering techniques and procedures for the construction, repair and maintenance of highly specialized scientific research equipment in collaboration with scientists and users. Involvement from conception of idea, design and construction of new apparatus. Assist users in carrying out experiments in a variety of superconducting and resistive magnet cells.

Assist with policy development for overall user program. Maintain technical knowledge and expertise of all specialized equipment in order to identify short and long range instrumentation needs. Assist with the development and direction of the user program.

Analyze problems with research equipment. Arrange with vendors or NHMFL shops for repair of instruments. Keep records of equipment shipped and received.

Order, receive, and distribute supplies, instrumentation and tools. Assist with providing software and data acquisition support to users and other NHMFL project teams. Other duties as assigned, including participation in Open House and other outreach activities. Serve on committees that promote safety, operational efficiency, and a productive working environment.

Qualifications Bachelor's degree and three years of experience; or a high school diploma/equivalent and experience equal to seven years. (Note: post-high school education can substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.)

Candidates with an additional three years of related experience will be considered for levels III - VI. Each level requires an additional three years of related experience.
