Pathology Laboratory Assistant I Mass General Brigham, 55 Fruit Street, Boston, MA (Onsite).

Position Overview:

Responsible for receiving, processing, and distributing clinical laboratory specimens. The role begins with flexible shift training and transitions to a regular swing shift schedule.

Essential Functions

Receive, label, and distribute clinical laboratory specimens, including blood, urine, and tissue samples.

Process specimens by verifying patient information, accessioning samples into the laboratory information system, and preparing samples for testing.

Monitor and maintain inventory of laboratory supplies, reagents, and equipment.

Follow established procedures and protocols for specimen handling, storage, and disposal.

Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the laboratory area.

Adhere to safety and quality standards, including use of personal protective equipment and proper disposal of hazardous materials.

Collaborate with laboratory staff and healthcare providers to ensure timely and accurate specimen processing.

Qualifications

Education:

Associate’s Degree in a related field preferred or High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Experience:

1-2 years in a laboratory or healthcare setting preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of basic laboratory equipment and terminology.

Attention to detail and accuracy in following procedures and protocols.

Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Basic computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
