Description Working under the general supervision of the Director of Counseling and Behavioral Health Services, the Clinical Counselor collaborates with faculty, staff, and students to develop and implement appropriate campus/community psycho-educational strategies to increase student academic and personal success. The Counselor will provide intake assessment, crisis intervention, and short/long-term counseling to a diverse multicultural student population, presenting with a wide range of mental health issues; including psychosocial, developmental, and serious mental health conditions. This role promotes and offers structured workshops; outreach services to students, staff, and faculty. This individual may also be assigned to supervise and direct pre-doctoral interns and practicum students training.
Qualifications
Licensed eligible in Hawaii as a Ph.D. or Psy.D in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA accredited program OR MFT, LCSW, or MHC from an accredited program and able to secure licensure within one year of employment.
Must possess strong individual therapy skills, including experience with time-limited therapy, and crisis intervention.
Demonstrated ability to make presentations to large and small groups on campus and outreach programs on a variety of mental health topics.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a diverse student, faculty, and campus community is essential.
Desired Qualifications
Licensed in Hawaii as a Ph.D. or Psy.D in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA accredited program, or MFT, LCSW, or MHC from an accredited program.
At least one year's work experience, post-licensure.
Social skills, temperament, and overall ability to work under pressure in a diverse, multicultural, international academic environment.
Ability to work after hours and/or on weekends on occasion for outreach or crisis intervention.
Ability to provide debriefing and assistance during a university-wide crisis.
Experience in a college or university counseling center.
Experience in developing and implementing preventative mental health outreach programming and training.
Experience in treating mental health issues involving military student and veterans.
Certification in substance abuse, addictions issues, and/or eating disorders.
Experience directing and supervising practicum students and mental health interns.
Experience and training working with the LGBTQ community.
Experience and training working with student athletes.
Other Qualifications
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship and relocation allowance is not available for this position.
Report to work obligations to support the department and may require work during HPU's winter break, if necessary.
This position may be considered an essential position with report to work obligations depending on the type of emergency, campus closure, or evacuation.
