Youth Development Leader

in our

Y Club before and after school program . This position plays a key role in creating a fun, safe, and supportive environment for elementary‑aged children.

You’ll lead fun activities with a group of children, including crafts, sports, snack time and more.

Schedule:

Monday to Friday split shift 6:30 am–8:30 am and 3:00 pm–6:00 pm, Thursdays 6:30 am–9:00 am.

Hourly Rate:

$15.50 minimum, increases to rates are case‑by‑case based on experience and education relevant to youth development.

Responsibilities

Provide direct supervision and lead a group of children in the program.

Ensure the safety and well‑being of participants by knowing participant locations at all times, enforcing safety regulations, applying behavior‑management techniques, and maintaining program equipment and facilities.

Implement group activity plan; prepare materials, activities, and environments.

Model positive interactions and discipline by teaching and redirecting rather than scolding; enforce rules while treating all children with dignity and respect to help build self‑esteem and sense of self‑worth.

Adhere to all processes, procedures, rules and regulations of the YMCA, licensing and school district.

Verify identity of pick‑up persons before releasing children (picture ID necessary until personally identified).

Identify emergency situations and respond quickly and appropriately.

Build positive relationships with children, families, school staff, and fellow YMCA team members.

Be prompt and dependable for scheduled hours; provide proper notice for time off and coordinate coverage with supervisor.

Clean and pick up areas used by the program, as needed.

Report suspected child abuse and neglect and notify appropriate associates of any suspected abuse, unsafe conditions, needed repairs, complaints, accidents or injuries immediately.

Qualifications

Minimum age 18.

High school diploma or equivalent required at Kansas sites.

One year or more of college preferred.

Previous experience working with school‑age children (may include babysitting, nanny, or other childcare programs).

Commitment to provide quality youth development services at all levels.

Demonstrated public‑relations and leadership skills in working with program parents, school personnel, children, and co‑workers.

Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.

Ability to work with others in a team environment.

General understanding of computer technology.

Physical Demands

Plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings requiring physical stamina, alertness and emotional stability.

Complete tuberculosis test and risk assessment; State Health Assessment form within 30 days (in MO).
