Staff Mechanical Engineer – Water Systems Pump Specialist Black & Veatch is a global engineering and construction firm dedicated to sustainable infrastructure. This role offers a unique opportunity to specialize in pump systems for water and wastewater treatment projects in Florida and across the United States.

Key Responsibilities

Perform technical design & analysis, developing engineering calculations, system performance parameters, and detailed design documents, including P&IDs and mechanical layouts.

Lead and mentor junior engineers, guiding best practices in system design.

Collaborate with equipment manufacturers, other disciplines, and project stakeholders to deliver integrated solutions.

Review submittals to ensure compliance with B&V standards.

Conduct site visits for assessments, client interactions, and project coordination.

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of experience with detailed design and technical specifications for pumps and piping systems.

Deep knowledge of pumping systems, plant hydraulics, and related engineering tasks; experience with blowers, aeration systems, anaerobic digestion, heating water boilers, heat exchangers, or steel piping systems is a plus.

Experience selecting pumping equipment, sizing pumps, and defining operational control strategies.

Strong understanding of hydraulic principles.

Proven ability to communicate complex information effectively through written and spoken presentations.

Minimum Qualifications Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program in the applicant’s country of practice and a minimum of 5 years of related work experience. All applicants must successfully complete pre‑employment background checks and related requirements.

Work Environment & Schedule

Typical office environment with prolonged periods of sitting and computer use.

Physical tasks during site visits, such as crouching, grasping, and walking for extended periods.

Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days based on manager discretion and performance.

Approximately 15% travel.
