Position Overview
HHSC is seeking an experienced
Applications Architect 3
to design, develop, and implement enterprise‑grade, cloud‑native applications. This role requires deep hands‑on technical expertise, strong architectural judgment, and the ability to lead complex application initiatives from conception through delivery.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in
Java EE, cloud platforms, microservices, and modern architectural principles , with experience building scalable, secure, and high‑performance systems.
Key Responsibilities
Lead architecture and design of cloud‑native enterprise applications
Develop and implement scalable, secure, and maintainable application solutions
Translate business requirements into robust technical architectures
Apply microservices, DDD, and 12‑Factor App principles
Oversee development efforts and guide technical teams
Ensure alignment with HHSC architecture standards and best practices
Required Skills & Experience
8+ years of experience in
Java EE ,
Spring Boot , and microservices
Hands‑on experience with
AWS or Google Cloud Platform
Strong expertise in
Docker ,
Kubernetes , and containerized applications
Proficiency in
API design and integration
(REST, GraphQL)
Experience with
CI/CD pipelines , DevOps practices, and IaC (Terraform, Ansible)
Knowledge of
cloud security best practices
Experience with
relational and NoSQL databases
(PostgreSQL, MongoDB)
Event‑driven architecture experience (Kafka, RabbitMQ)
Exposure to
serverless computing
Strong application of
Domain‑Driven Design (DDD)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK)
Performance tuning and high‑availability strategies
Healthcare or public sector systems experience
Experience with Texas or other state eligibility systems
Consulting, facilitation, and stakeholder communication skills
Relevant certifications (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Architect)
