Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Wolpin-Nowak Lab The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) seeks a Research Fellow to focus on next-generation, translational pathology studies within the Wolpin-Nowak laboratory housed in the Hale Family Center for Pancreatic Cancer Research and the Lustgarten Foundation Pancreatic Cancer Research Laboratory. This position is onsite, full-time on campus in Boston, MA.

Job Overview The Wolpin-Nowak laboratory investigates the biology and risk factors associated with pancreatic and other gastrointestinal cancers. Members include epidemiologists, biostatisticians, pathologists, data scientists, molecular biologists, and clinical researchers. The laboratory employs population-scale epidemiology, digital pathology, genomic sequencing, spatial transcriptomic, and protein profiling approaches, both for clinical trial correlative studies and discovery.

Responsibilities

Design and conduct studies using multiplex immunofluorescence, spatial transcriptional profiling, and other high-dimension tissue analysis to evaluate pancreatic cancer pathology.

Assemble analysis pipelines using machine learning to process tissue data reproducibly and at scale.

Conduct analyses using R and Python.

Collaborate with laboratory members in epidemiology, bioinformatics, pathology, molecular biology, and functional genomics.

Participate in group meetings and work collaboratively on larger projects.

Lead projects that result in first-author manuscripts.

Write grants and progress reports related to research funding.

Qualifications

Doctoral degree in genetics/genomics, cancer biology, pathology, or related fields. MD or MD-equivalent and PhD-holding candidates will both be considered; MD/PhD-holding candidates with pathology training are highly encouraged.

Strong background in human pathology and experience with traditional pathology laboratory techniques (slide sectioning, H&E staining, immunohistochemistry, special stains).

Experience with translational pathology techniques (multiplexed immunofluorescence, spatial transcriptomics, RNA in situ hybridization).

Experience with digital image analysis platforms (Halo, VisioPharm, QuPath, InForm).

Experience with R, Python, and commonly used libraries/packages.

Enthusiasm for novel assay and technology development.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills; attention to detail and thoroughness.

Ability to work within a team environment and adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Benefits & Pay

Pay range: $72,000 – $76,385 for union positions; salary determined by market pay structures and relevant experience.

Union positions are governed by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
