National Architecture & Design firm has a newly created permanent opportunity due to growth for a Project Accountant in downtown Chicago. Firm has numerous offices throughout the U.S. and has been in existence for decades. Highly awarded, the firm has been nationally recognized for its leadership, innovations, growth, people, sustainability initiatives and community commitment. Their work includes Schools, Community, Healthcare, Housing, and Retail. The firm invests heavily in its employees and is seeking a Project Accountant with a passion for benefiting the community.
The Project Accountant reports to the Corporate Controller and will manage the lien waivers process for local projects and assist with budgets, tracking costs, and financial reports. Responsibilities include maintaining project files, profitability and expense analysis, payments, billings, and analyzing financial progress to ensure projects stay within budget. The Project Accountant works jointly with the local project managers to oversee contract compliance and provide financial insights.
Hybrid work, 3 days in office with flexibility.
Salary: Approximately $85,000 - $105,000 + bonus - based on experience
Responsibilities Of The Project Accountant
Manages lien waivers, collecting and verifying to ensure paid correctly
Issue waivers, maintain accurate financial records, and ensure compliance with project‑specific financial requirements and local laws
Collect and verify waivers after being paid to confirm they have received payment and have released the right to file a lien against the property
Process payment applications - compile the waivers to verify all parties have been paid before the application is approved
Issue waivers, risk mitigation, maintain financial records
Ensure compliance, make sure the waivers meet the requirements of the specific project and comply with local regulations
Budget and cost management
Profitability and cost analysis
Assist in setting up and maintaining project budgets, tracking project costs and expenses, analyzing vs. budget
Ideal Experience For The Project Accountant
Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance or related
3+ years of project accounting experience
Architecture, Design, Construction, Engineering or related industry experience
Strong lien waivers experience
Strong excel and systems experience
