About the Role
We are seeking a Project Accountant to support the financial management of active construction projects. This role focuses on job cost tracking, project billing, subcontractor accounting, and financial reporting, working closely with Project Managers and Leadership to ensure projects stay on budget and financially organized.
What you'll do:
Set up and maintain project budgets, cost codes, and schedules of values
Track job costs vs. budget and flag variances
Prepare client invoices and track receivables
Process subcontractor pay applications and verify lien waivers
Reconcile vendor invoices and manage project-level AP/AR
Track change orders and update budgets and forecasts
Prepare monthly project financial reports
What we are looking for:
5+ years of construction project accounting experience
Experience with GC or design‑build firms
Familiarity with progress billing, retainage, and lien waivers
Experience with construction accounting software (Buildertrend, Quickbooks, or similar)
Highly detail‑oriented and comfortable managing multiple projects
Traits that lead to success:
Highly detail‑oriented with a strong sense of financial accuracy
Organized and disciplined in managing recurring monthly workflows
Comfortable working across multiple active projects simultaneously
Proactive about identifying discrepancies or missing documentation
Clear communicator who follows up and closes loops
Reliable, consistent, and able to operate with minimal oversight
