Domestic Violence Services (DVS) offers a wide range of comprehensive immediate and long‑term support services to survivors of domestic violence and their families. DVS oversees the largest domestic shelter system in the country—more than 55 emergency domestic violence shelters that provide temporary housing and supportive services to over 17,500 victims and their children annually. DVS also administers the 24‑hour domestic violence hotline, the No Violence Again (NOVA) program, the Domestic Violence Liaison Unit, and partners with community‑based organizations to offer counseling, legal services, financial development, and job readiness. Additionally, DVS leads the nationally recognized Teen Relationship Abuse Prevention Program (RAPP).

Responsibilities

Provide supervision to staff responsible for delivering services to domestic violence shelter residents, including developing engagement plans and offering case management, information, and referrals.

Monitor client services through periodic case audits to ensure compliance with engagement and employment requirements, and that documentation is complete and accurate.

Collaborate with the Special Services Director to develop procedures and control systems that ensure appropriate service delivery.

Prepare cases for fair hearings, research cases, gather evidence, review decisions, and ensure follow‑up of fair‑hearing outcomes.

Review reports and verify that all units report information accurately and consistently.

Identify operational problem areas and recommend corrective measures, as well as policy or procedural changes to improve services.

Consult with unit supervisors and make decisions on emergencies or special problems.

Salary Range:

$74,781 – $85,998

Hours/Schedule:

9:00 am – 5:00 pm (Flexible)

Minimum Qualifications

A Master’s Degree in Social Work from an accredited school and at least two years of full‑time, satisfactory experience practicing social work using casework, group work, and community organization, with at least one year in a supervisory capacity.

Certification/License Requirements: A valid Certified Social Worker (CSW) certificate or Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW) license issued by the New York State Department of Education must be obtained within one year of appointment. Failure to obtain the CSW or LMSW within 18 months of service will result in dismissal.

Special Note: Section 424‑a of the New York Social Services Law requires that candidates with child‑care responsibilities be screened for possible child‑abuse and maltreatment reports. The agency may assign such candidates to positions with no child‑care responsibilities.

Residency Requirement:

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. Eligible employees who have worked for the city for two continuous years may also reside in certain surrounding counties. Discuss applicability during the interview.
