Commercial Vehicle Group, Inc.
Position Summary
The Production Scheduler orchestrates the plant’s manufacturing operations by developing and maintaining optimized production schedules within the Plex ERP (Manufacturing Cloud) environment. This role serves as the central pivot between Customer Demand, Supply Chain, and Operations, ensuring that the Scheduling engine is utilized to balance efficiency, capacity, and customer on-time delivery. The Scheduler is responsible for translating MRP requirements into executable dispatch lists while actively managing constraints (manpower, machine, material) to drive operational excellence.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities Strategic Scheduling & Capacity Planning
Execute Capacity Scheduling: Move beyond simple MRP validation by utilizing Plex’s Scheduling module to load work centers based on actual capacity constraints rather than infinite availability.
Optimize Job Sequencing: Strategically sequence jobs to minimize changeover times and setup costs by grouping runs based on key attributes (e.g., raw material type, tooling requirements, machines) using Plex sequencing logic.
Operational Execution & Control
Digital Dispatch Management: Release and maintain Dispatch Lists directly to the Plex Control Panel, ensuring operators have real-time visibility into job priorities without reliance on paper.
Real-Time Schedule Adherence: Monitor the Job Dispatch and Work Center Status screens to identify deviations from the plan immediately. intervene to reschedule "Past Due" operations and prevent bottleneck accumulation.
Inventory Availability Validation: utilize Plex Production Resource Planning (PRP) screens to verify raw material availability (WIP and component stock) prior to releasing jobs, preventing line stoppages due to shortages.
Shop Floor Communication: Act as the primary liaison between the scheduling department and the production floor. Communicate "Pin/Freeze" schedule periods to Supervisors to ensure stability in operations.
Analysis & Continuous Improvement
Performance Reporting: Leverage available reports to generate and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as Schedule Adherence, OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), and Capacity Utilization.
Root Cause Analysis: Investigate scheduling failures (e.g., missed shipments, excessive overtime) by tracing transaction history in Plex; implement systemic corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Downtime Coordination: Collaborate with the Maintenance Department to input planned downtime into the Plex production calendar, ensuring the scheduling engine automatically routes work around maintenance windows.
Supervisory Responsibilities This is an individual contributor role with high influence but no direct reports. The position requires "servant leadership" to guide production teams toward schedule compliance.
Required Qualifications Education and/or Experience
Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Associate's degree in Supply Chain, Operations, or related field preferred but not required.
Experience: 1-3 years of production scheduling, material planning, or manufacturing coordination experience preferred.
Experience: Plex ERP experience is preferred but not required—training will be provided for the right candidate with strong manufacturing fundamentals and computer aptitude.
Experience: Familiarity with MRP (Material Requirements Planning) concepts and manufacturing terminology helpful.
Certifications: APICS/ASCM certification (CPIM or CSCP) is a plus but not required.
Technical & Professional Competencies
Computer Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook) and ability to learn ERP systems. Experience with Plex Manufacturing Cloud is highly desirable.
Analytical Thinking: Ability to review scheduling reports, identify conflicts (material shortages, capacity constraints), and elevate issues appropriately.
Problem Solving: Capable of identifying root causes when schedules fail and proposing practical solutions.
Communication: Clear verbal and written communication skills to coordinate between production floor, planning, and supervision.
Adaptability: Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Attention to Detail: Ability to maintain accurate data in the ERP system and catch discrepancies before they impact production.
Physical Requirements
Shop Floor Presence: Frequently required to walk the production floor to verify machine status and communicate with supervisors (approx. 10% of time).
Stationary Work: Regularly required to sit and utilize computer equipment for extended periods for data analysis and schedule manipulation.
Visual Acuity: Specific vision abilities required include close vision for reviewing detailed data sets and color vision for distinct coding in dispatch lists.
