The Plant Manager is responsible for leading all operational, safety, quality, and people-management activities at CVG’s Michigan City, IN facility, which manufactures wiper systems, switches, and related assemblies for commercial vehicle customers. This leader ensures the plant meets production, cost, delivery, and customer-quality requirements while building a high-performance, safety-focused culture.
Position Summary The Plant Manager provides day-to-day leadership across assembly operations, materials, maintenance, and quality, and plays a key role in driving continuous improvement, lean manufacturing practices, and Operational Excellence. The role builds a team that delivers on Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, and People goals and interfaces with key CVG executives to elevate issues and opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Production Leadership & Execution: Lead daily production operations to ensure schedule attainment and adherence to customer demand, oversee the Master Production Schedule (MPS), labor deployment, machine capacity, and drive productivity through monitoring and improving OEE, takt time, throughput, and downtime.
Ensure production processes meet quality, safety, and operational standards and optimize changeovers, resource allocation, and line balancing to improve output and cost efficiency.
Customer Requirements & Delivery Performance: Ensure on-time, in-full (OTIF) delivery, utilize forecasting, capacity planning, and production scheduling, partner with Customer Service, Sales, and Supply Chain to anticipate demand risks, and lead containment, root cause, and corrective action activities for escalations.
Maintain plant performance to customer scorecards, audits, and quality standards and represent CVG‑Michigan City to the customer base.
Quality & Compliance: Ensure all products meet customer specifications, internal standards, and regulatory requirements, lead quality system compliance (ISO/IATF), audit readiness, and corrective action closure, oversee customer complaint management, scrap reduction, PPM improvements, and warranty reduction strategies, and maintain detailed process controls, SOPs, standard work, and documentation integrity.
Production Efficiency & Cost Optimization: Achieve annual targets for conversion cost, scrap, direct labor efficiency, and overhead management, identify cost reduction opportunities through lean manufacturing, waste elimination, and process optimization, optimize staffing, overtime, and equipment utilization, and manage and forecast plant operating budget, capital investments, and resource needs.
Capacity, Materials, and Operational Readiness: Ensure production capacity matches customer requirements through labor planning, shift structure, and equipment capability, collaborate with Supply Chain and Purchasing to maintain material availability, mitigate supplier risks, oversee inventory accuracy, cycle counting, and material flow, and resolve operational risks affecting customer delivery.
New Product Launch & Engineering Change Management: Support NPI through manufacturing readiness, training, PPAP/APQP requirements, and process validation; implement engineering changes (ECNs/ECOs) with minimal disruption, and partner with Engineering and Quality for smooth integration.
Safety & Environmental Compliance: Drive a proactive safety culture ensuring zero incidents and regulatory compliance, maintain OSHA compliance, conduct root cause investigations, ensure sustained corrective actions, oversee environmental compliance, waste handling, and facility housekeeping standards.
Leadership, People Development & Culture: Lead, coach, and develop supervisors, production managers, and hourly workforce, build an engaged culture through communication, recognition, accountability, and consistent leadership presence, ensure training, certification, and skills development programs support production capability, manage performance, succession planning, and workforce readiness.
Own and Report Performance on Plant KPIs
Safety: TRIR, near‑misses, audit results
Quality: Scrap, rework, customer PPM, complaints
Delivery: OTIF, schedule adherence, backlog
Cost: Productivity, labor efficiency, overhead, waste
People: Retention, training completion, absenteeism
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Supply Chain, or related field (required).
7–10+ years of progressive leadership experience in a manufacturing environment; automotive or high-demand industrial preferred.
Demonstrated success leading production, quality, delivery, and cost improvements.
Strong understanding of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement.
Proven ability to manage customer-facing requirements, audits, and escalations.
Effective leadership, change management, and communication skills.
Preferred Skills
Lean Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or Black Belt).
Experience with ERP/MRP systems and advanced planning tools.
Understanding of IATF/ISO quality systems and PPAP/APQP processes.
Experience in multi-shift, high-volume, or complex assembly environments.
